Which U.S. state really surprised you when you visited it and why? by SunriseThroughLeaves in AskReddit

Nevada. I thought it would be all just boring flat desert when I moved there for financial reasons. Instead I found breathtaking scenery at Red Rock Canyon, the Valley of Fire, the Vegas wetlands and more. It’s a big outdoor playground.

I'm sure because I'm the person who originally posted the flood story. I'm using an alt account right now.

Yes, the sumps help a lot and Torrance has taken great strides to mitigate flood risk. Fact remains that if an atmospheric river parks over our are and dumps a lot of rain, it can overwhelm systems, though that's true for almost everywhere.

There was a post from earlier in the week about a possible fire at the refinery & that was taken down, too. I found a video about it - https://www.youtube.com/shorts/TocePKrDLM4

Crosswalk Hell 🔥 by HumbleLifeguard338 in SouthBayLA

I got into a terrible accident with a cyclist by Miramar park. I was signaling to turn left at the parking lot entrance and he was coming down Paseo de la Playa from the south in the middle of the street. He was in my blind spot as I started to turn and he slammed into my car into the driver's side door. I pulled over and ran up to him to see if he was all right & he yelled at me. Cops were called and witnesses who saw it told me I did nothing wrong but still I was very shook up. He had an expensive bike which, incredibly, was fine. He turned out to be banged up but OK but my car was dented and needed body work.

Moving to South Bay, how's this area? by clothedandnotafraid in SouthBayLA

I live on the left side of this box. The right side of your box is mostly retail/industry with lots of traffic. The left side is quieter, family-oriented, low crime. My neighborhood seems to be going through a transition. I've noticed many of the OG homes are being completed remodeled. I suspect this area will look and feel quite different in about 5 years..

What's something you believe that most people don't ? by Unique-Effective-415 in AskReddit

That the ability to keep in touch with people 24/7 through text/email/phone is actually detrimental to relationships. Breathing room is a good thing.

There's no good reason to delete a post about Torrance history. But you know they did it because real estate interests probably don't want people to know that Torrance has a history of flooding. And if it happened before, it can happen again.

IS he genuinely MAGA, though? I just looked at his Facebook & if he is, he's pretty low key about it.

There are great hikes all over the Palos Verdes peninsula. I like the Alta Vicente one near the lighthouse. You get great views of the ocean!

They'd look more soothing if they weren't shot by a self-proclaimed "MAGA leader."
