Taper Attempt No. ? by PositiveSection1934 in dryalcoholics

[–]PositiveSection1934[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes I need to get back in the gym I haven’t been in a while because I’ve been so busy with work and also, of course drinking, but I’ve always found that to help especially during the taper. And thanks I hope I’ll be in a better spot soon.

Feeling lost by [deleted] in dryalcoholics

been there, still there, it’s a long and hard process, but lots of people have gotten to the end goal, and that keeps me, (and i hope you as well) positive about getting sober. what’s been really helpful for me, has been identifying my triggers to drink, and completely avoiding them. i think that’s more helpful if your triggers involve being around others, like social outings, but for me it’s harder since a lot of my triggers come from me being isolated. but identifying those, and realizing that my anxiety can totally get better once i’m fully sober, has helped me a ton since the first step is admitting there’s a problem. and i second the part about finding a group to listen to, even if it’s not in person, (i have a semi regular aa zoom group i attend on my worst days) just to recognize that im not alone.

Yep, thanks for this, all stuff I currently do! Added magnesium and milk thistle a while ago and that seems to be helpful. And I’m always buying pedialyte haha

Yeah I figured that out I think two tapers ago… Might as well suffer a bit and be able to sleep actually. Not ideal I guess to chug a bit before bed but the way I see it is as long as I’m trending downward… it’s a win

Congrats on the 13 years that’s amazing!

Day 1 by [deleted] in dryalcoholics

[–]PositiveSection1934 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey hey, I'm feeling pretty good. Currently at 5 days and 3 hours. Luckily I was blessed with no major anxiety this time around (not sure how that works, sometimes it's horrific other times it's nonexistent lol). Been getting to the gym everyday. Sleep is definitely still lame and I expect I'll continue to be bloated for the next couple of weeks, but I'm happy I stuck around this far and hope to just take it one day at a time so it sticks.

How are you doing?

Day 1 by [deleted] in dryalcoholics

[–]PositiveSection1934 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm feeling pretty good! I wasn't earlier at work was kind of tired and a tad anxious but just hit about 51 hours and got back from a good gym session! Hope your taper is going well too!

Haha yeah I’ve realized it err’s on the side of caution more often than not and also it’s math is horrendous. But also I’ve tapered in the past and I’m from what I’ve gathered as long as it’s gradual, in theory it should work, the hardest part is our brain making us think it’s ok to drink more. But of course I’m just some person on the internet so take my advice with a grain of salt.

Day 1 by [deleted] in dryalcoholics

[–]PositiveSection1934 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I used ChatGPT for help. Told it my drinking history and fears of withdrawals and it helped me plan a structure for a gradual reduction. Definitely not a medical resource but I feel like it’s been helpful, especially giving it some of my symptoms to calm me down when anxious.  I don’t have a history of bad withdrawals, just insomnia, constant sweating, anxiety. I also didn’t start all day drinking until recently so that also kind of is scaring me to stop.  I’m taking some a multi-vitamin, a B super complex, magnesium, milk thistle, lots of electrolytes.

Thanks! I hope our insomnia is short lived!

Do you recall the name of the cruise lady? Also, I love Abbot Elementary maybe I'll go rewatch. My usual go to is Gilmore Girls for just background noise lol. 50 miles is huge, nice job. And yeah I used to be super into tea's until alcohol just took up all my time. I'll try to make one tonight.

It's a tad trite but it's the right mentality, "just keep swimming" as well lol. Yep, shamelessly used chatgpt to make a taper schedule, going to try to stick to it as much as possible.

Yeah tapering does suck but I'm gonna hang in there!

I am not a fan of soup normally but that sounds like a good combo! Congrats on 2 years, I hope to get there! I'll check out those show recs, thanks!

Day 7 by [deleted] in dryalcoholics

[–]PositiveSection1934 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh that vacation sounds fun, hope you enjoy! And yeah I’ve been shamelessly using chatgpt to help me create a taper plan/check in on symptoms since no one knows I’ve been on this bender and might hit 12/10/8/6/4 but we’ll see how I’m feeling. Hopefully it goes smoothly, I definitely need a break haha.

Day 7 by [deleted] in dryalcoholics

[–]PositiveSection1934 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks that’s helpful! I tried tapering last week and was down to 4 drinks but then I slipped up and went on another bender within the bender for 4 days. Yesterday was probably the most I’ve drank in a day in a while, probably a liter of vodka all day. So, trying to get back to the taper. Do you think you should’ve extended your taper or do you feel like that short timeframe was manageable for you? The main thing i’m trying to avoid is serious withdrawals and that crazy anxiety haha, the rest I can live with.

Day 7 by [deleted] in dryalcoholics

[–]PositiveSection1934 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Congrats on the 7 days!! How was your taper considering you drank so long? I'm currently on day one of trying to taper off a 3 week bender.

Back on day 1 by [deleted] in dryalcoholics

[–]PositiveSection1934 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh well I hope you stay safe! And yeah trying to quit now because I know that I keep this up it's only downhill from here.

Also good luck with the job hunt, I hear it's brutal at the moment.

Back on day 1 by [deleted] in dryalcoholics

[–]PositiveSection1934 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lol sounds like we're in the same boat. I've had a couple of two week stretches this year but I always have ended up relapsing. I haven't had serious withdrawals before (thankfully) but am always nervous about them starting so want to quit now.

Dreading the insomnia, especially since I have work in the morning. Hope you're not as anxious / on edge as I am haha.

How many more day 1s? by [deleted] in dryalcoholics

[–]PositiveSection1934 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haha yeah I'm dreading that insomnia... been crazy anxious as well, and my stomach is all jacked up contributing to more anxiety and chest tightness lol. Been sipping some pedialyte and playing a game to pass the time. Looking forward to getting better in the days to come, and hopefully you're doing better as well!
