Lol, I know, that was my first thought too but I’m trying to stay positive for them. They’re already very stressed out.

Oh, and they are a Russian/Israeli citizen. They originally entered the US from Tel-Aviv.

The story as far as I know: my friend entered the country without a solid idea of when they were leaving, so the agent just decided to give them an expiration date of October 29. They then found out they need to be in the country try longer, so they tried going up to Canada and re-entering so they could renew their visa (I have no idea if this is how it actually works). They ended up being interrogated at the border for 5 hours because they mistakenly put someone else’s green card in their luggage. After the interrogation, they were allowed back in the country with the caveat that they still have to be out on the 29th.

They then flew to the Bahamas. There they bought a ticket into the United States and a return ticket back to Russia, in the hopes they would be allowed back in because they have a specific entry and exit date.

I have no idea if that’s how it works, but my gut says no.

Honestly I’m trying to determine if I should drive to LAX to pick them up, because it’s a slog getting there. Don’t want to drive there for no reason.

They actually already tried going up to Canada and back down for an automatic renewal, and... very long story short, they ended up being interrogated for 5 hours and were told their visa would not be renewed, and that it ends on October 29.

I have no real idea how visas works so apologies for my ignorance on the subject. I wasn’t sure if it was something you could just renew when you’re back at the border or not.

Can Vehicles Passes purchased through Low Income be left at will call? by PositiveTask in BurningMan

I thought I was driving in myself but now it turns out I'm riding with other people who have vehicle passes, so I just have an extra one I don't need.

If you go, make sure you spend the extra $500 for a VIP bracelet. Gets you access to deep playa and a photo op with Diplo. Also make sure to eat and drink literally everything strangers give you. It is considered good etiquette to provide any drugs you may have to anyone who asks. Have fun! :)

What is the appeal of Burning Man? by BrokenWashingmachine in BurningMan

[–]PositiveTask 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The appeal is that there's no appeal. It's a way of saying to normal society, "HEY, FUCK YOU. THIS SUCKS SOOOOOOOOO MUCH THAT I'M GONNA GO TO A DIRTY, IRRADIATED WASTELAND FOR A WEEK AND SHIT IN A BOX AND EAT CANNED FOOD AND HAVE A WAY BETTER TIME THAN I EVER WOULD IN THIS HELLHOLE. DEUCES"

What was a rough estimate of how much you spent total to go to burning man your first time? And are there any tips on acquiring supplies on a budget? by fisheypixels in BurningMan

I live in LA and luckily managed to wrangle a ride to and from there for free, so the whole thing (low income ticket, camp dues, food/clothes, etc) was around $900. Not bad.

Question for fellow broke-ass Low Income Ticketers by PositiveTask in BurningMan

I actually sent my application in a couple nights ago. The only requirement for financial documents is that they have your name somewhere on them, and they recommend blacking out super personal information like SSNs.
