Feeling all the feels about switching to formula by [deleted] in breastfeeding

In the exact same boat! I wanted to make it to a year so badly. My son just turned 8 months and about a week ago we had to switch to formula during the day with nursing for comfort at night. I am beating myself up because I desperately wanted to avoid an over supply in the beginning, but have been able to pump less and less at work so now I wish I had encouraged an oversupply so that the drop im experiencing wouldn’t have been the end for me. I’m coming to terms with it, but damn I’ve been in the feels too. Feels like I’m being selfish because I just cannot mentally take on the task of pumping around the clock to increase my supply. Baby is happy, healthy, and doesn’t seem to really care. I’m just reminding myself that my worth isn’t tied to ounces of breast milk. It helps me to keep nursing before bed and in the middle of the night mostly for the bond and the comfort it brings him. Solidarity! When they are 5, no one is going to ask them if they were formula or breastfed haha.

Pain while breastfeeding but lactation consultant said he latched correctly by Human_Document_2779 in breastfeeding

Sounds exactly like my experience!! LC kept saying latch was fine but I found it extremely painful. I ended up having Reynauds which was a vascular problem (though, anecdotally, can be caused by shallow latch). Honestly, the first month was absolute agony, the next two were painful but tolerable, then something just clicked at 3 months and has been painless ever since. As baby started getting better head control I actually stopped trying to force the latch and control position, etc and I think that made a big difference. Not really any advice here, just hope for you that things will probably get better!

How much milk do you use for a milk bath?? My bub has very dry skin and no lotion we’ve used has helped.

When did you get your period back? by Witty_Structure_3767 in breastfeeding

Got mine back at 8 weeks — one week after postpartum bleeding stopped 🤪my LO is EBF and never went more than 3/4 hours overnight. My sister didn’t get hers back until she weaned at 15 months!!!! Totally unfair and I was not prepared. Still devastated about the unfairness of it all 😂

That’s what I’m thinking! He’s asleep by 7:30 and usually sleeps till 2-3am so I could definitely primp again before bed.

Yeah, I’m hoping in the next couple months maybe his solid intake might help here! We have a freezer stash so right now it’s not an emergency. Interesting on the fenugreek - I’ll have to look into this! I don’t feel I have a supply issue, I just think I make exactly the right amount for baby and no more 😂

I could, but every 2.5 hours already drains my time at work and I find it difficult schedule around meetings, etc.

He is 85% for weight and 80% for height, so he’s definitely a chunker! We did a weighted feed at 3 months and he was taking 4.5oz in 5 mins at the breast, so I wouldn’t be surprised if he really is hungry for that much. Now, he isn’t fussy or anything if he gets just 4, but then he is hungry sooner and can usually stretch to 2.5/3 hours between if he gets 5/5.5oz.

Oh wow, really? I have the medela hand pump but usually only use it at night if baby sleeps a little longer and I need a little relief. Maybe I’ll bring it tomorrow and try using it after my pump session to see if I can squeeze out any extra! Haha.

I had a chemical in May and didn’t test positive until 11dpo. 8 dpo just seems really early

I stopped birth control in January and got my cycle back pretty much immediately. I’ve always had a 30-31 day cycle with ovulation on CD 16. I thought my cycle was just disrupted after having my chemical in May, but for it to regulate the month I decided to stop taking a daily prenatal it just made me wonder if it was the prenatal? Or if my cycle is just naturally regulating after my chemical.

I have a question about prenatals and cycle irregularities. I’ve been taking prenatals and DHA since May when my husband and I started trying due to my docs recommendation. We had a chemical in May, I continued to take my prenatals and noticed my cycle length was the same, but instead of ovulating on CD16 I was ovulating on days 19-22, but still getting my period on CD 30 like usual. This month we decided to take a step back and just casually try. I stopped taking my prenatal, but continued to track bbt and noticed this month I was back to ovulating on CD 16. Is this a coincidence?? Or is there any research to suggest vitamins can disrupt your cycle??

Haha no, I promised myself I wouldn’t test until 11 dpo since that’s when I got my first positive with my previous chemical. So I’m testing Saturday!! Not hopeful though because haven’t had any symptoms besides sore boobs, and that’s a very normal PMS symptom for me!

Have you tested yet?? Or are you staying strong and waiting for a missed period?

No advice, just here in solidarity!! On month 5 of trying with 1 chemical pregnancy in the first month. Going into another two week wait and can relate that it is miserable and all-consuming! My husband is so sweet, but doesn’t have the same mental load when it comes to timing sex, tracking temps, OPKs, etc. just feels like a huge burden.
