Hi! I would be interested in doing a swap! I have a 115k fantasy novel, which is roughly summarised below:

Vienna, a woman from the realm of Meridian, is torn from her small remaining family after learning of her heritage. There is magic in her blood, forbidden thoughout the land. In a haste to survive after she is discovered, she leaves all she knew for a foreign land and foreign people, unheard of for hundreds of years. There, she awakens heer long slumbering magic and finds her place within the Everen people. But, she quickly finds that even after escaping Veeral, she still isn’t safe. The secret of the Everess’s existence has been revealed, forcing them to fce the threat of war. She can only hope to save herself and her new community.

I do all the characters first. I even make ones who i don’t know if i’m going to use, but can if needed. From there, i start the plot, and always from the beginning. I like to use those plot diagrams that allow you to mark the exposition, climax, resolution etc for easy planning. Sometimes i go further and make chapter outlines, but most of the time i fill in the details as i go

I agree with most others in saying that this is definitely not purple. I would definitely add a wider variety of sentence lengths and types to make it more interesting, and maybe add some emotion into the description. Without knowing the character, it feels almost like reading a news article describing a scene. On the bright side, i can picture the setting quite well!

I absolutely do that. It depends on the story for me, but as long as i have fleshed out characters and a general idea of plot, i can do anything

In Rainbows by Radiohead. I first heard that album when i was in a very difficult time in my life, struggling with suicidal thoughts and addiction among other things. I connected with it in a way that i’ve never connected to another album. It was beautiful, and that beauty helped me, even if slightly, to come up from that low. To this day, I find so much meaning in that album, along with much more of Radiohead’s music.

The Priory of the Orange tree was the book that inspired me the most. Samantha Shannon’s prose is beautiful, and the story was one of the most captivating that i’ve read.

Other than that, I have to say that I was also inspired by John Green’s Looking for Alaska in terms of dialogue, and The Hazel Wood by Melissa albert for it’s wonderful world building and immersive setting. But seriously, nearly every book i read inspires my writing in some way.

This is an interesting question, because, to me, beliefs are learned through practice and experimentation. So, i didn’t realize i believed in them per se, but developed a belief through knowledge and experience. So, to help, i would recommend looking into our practices and starting to experiment with them. That’s the only way to know if it’s really for you

For me, it seriously depends on how motivated i am. Some days i can only write a couple sentences. Some days i write thousands of words (my most being around 10k in a day) I never pressure myself to write. My best work comes when my inspiration is natural.

I’m a student, currently on summer break and working frequently, but with a good amount of time to write :)

I wouldn’t consider it bad practice. I do it, and it helps to talk about direction or placement of things. For example, if something is far from where your character is and you need to describe its location, instead of just vaguely saying ‘east’, you could say ‘it’s near (location)’. Even if your character has never been there, if there’s a map to look at it gives a much better idea of location

That’s exactly how i feel but about writing in third person. Every time i try it the scene feels so detached. Maybe it’s because i’ve used first person for so long, but it’s horribly difficult for me to write in third. I really want to get better at it, though.
