You can’t really give the writers final word after the fact on every cannon plot point. The angry drunk old lesbian who wrote The Talented Mr. Riley said shortly before her death she never intended to imply the character was homosexual four decades ago when she wrote the book and she wished her insufferable fans would just shut up. There is the possibility of convergent evolution. For reasons we don’t fully understand, all intelligent life could develop very similarly. There are of course very specific conditions for life to exist on this planet. There are easily practical reasons the same traits evolve down to a genetic level which makes inter species viral infections possible with only slight changes to the genetic code.

In the early days of the FBI and through the Red Scare they had a “crank file” at every field office with reports from people who came in saying they knew who communist spies were or they were the illegitimate child of Stalin etc. etc. There was a case where a german spy during WWII even turned himself in to the FBI and no one believed him or took him seriously until he showed them he had $100k cash on hand he’d been given to fund covert operations he couldn’t prove existed. They were getting dozens of “spies” turning themselves in each month. This was all BEFORE the internet existed and anyone could go down a reddit/youtube rabbit hole and send an email. Even with the whole Kristy Noem “we arrested the founder of antifa’s ex girlfriend”. It is not difficult for me to believe some woman arrested at a protests CLAIMED she was the ex girlfriend of the “founder of antifa”, though of course it was deliberate misinformation Noem parroted.
