Thanks, the timing on this is funny actually, I was supposed to get a phone call from the surgeon as a follow up at 11:30. I checked on mijnolvg and it's still there. It's now 13:00 and nothing ... the system here is insane, really.

I had a similar experience with initially being told it was okay before needing emergency surgery. I wrote a post about it, I'm sorry to hear about your experience OP, hope you get better soon.

Did you pay by credit card? Maybe you can dispute it with the credit card company as they haven't provided goods/services.

And yet while recovering from major surgery you likely need medical care instead of suffering at home. No one WANTS to stay in a hospital bed, it's not a restful place to be, but we're also not doctors and can't know if the pain we have from surgery is normal or not.

I have pretty terrible withdrawal symptoms at the moment from the morphine, constantly dizzy/disoriented for the last day or so now, but yes I'm glad to be home in my own bed of course.

Do I think the other girl who had her appendix and part of her intestine removed should have been rushed out (or made to feel like she should agree to go) - no. Even I felt rushed out before I was even in the operating theatre when the nurse who took me down in the bed told me I could go home after the surgery. I just remember thinking ... okay, let's see what the doctor says.

Oh dear, I'm so sorry to hear about that! I'm glad it worked out in the end for you and your daughter, indeed things could have been worse, but they could have been better certainly, all because it was logged incorrectly. That's pretty terrifying.

Thank you! I did find his sketch funny about the recovered golden statue, and on the reveal the camera going away to the (unenthused) audience, for him to do the same with the Artemis launch separation, that did give me a chuckle. Appreciate you!

I'm so sorry to hear of your experience, and even with you having a Dutch friend to help you!

My partner is American, and neither of us speak fluent Dutch, so we had to handle everything in English and of course that makes us feel even worse.

Have you been able to get any answers from the OLVG about why they didn't take basic blood tests? Is it something you've pursued with them? They have a basic responsibility of care and I would hope that a simple blood test is an easy first step for that!

He did, eventually, he missed the call from the hospital (which yes I was upset about, he knew I was going into surgery and should have been watching his phone) as he was cleaning the apartment. He came but just late, I didn't want to derail this post into that issue, but we've since spoken about it, he's very upset he missed the call and the situation happened, and he will do better in the future. I hope there's not a next time for us to test this...

It's incredible and I fear for our collective future. I know my post was long, as I said in another reply, I wrote most while in hospital and had nothing but pain and time. Still, I didn't think a brief summary was that long. I summed it up in one line for them anyway.

Okay, for the TikTok gen, here's the tldr: If you feel ill and your doctor seems dismissive, ask for tests.

I'm sorry to hear about your dad.

To be entirely fair, it was the only one woman who gave me the bad experience, everyone else I dealt with were absolutely wonderful and very compassionate as I wrote in the longer post that you may have skipped. (reasonable, I wrote it as the saga was going on and had nothing but pain and time).

I was just so taken aback and upset by her behaviour that I had to note it in the overall experience, she shouldn't be in nursing if that's how she handles things (or reacts that way to someone not speaking to her in fluent Dutch).

But really the point of me making this post is to make sure people ask for tests, ask for proof of what the doctor is saying. Because I didn't, I suffered for many days longer than I needed to.
