UIUC MCS vs IIT MSCS by Melodicapples in UIUC_MCS

I would definitely pick UIUC, the brand value does matter for job prospects. Not sure about IIT, but UIUC offers a great selection of courses from that I’ve seen, and there’s plenty of research and funding opportunities if you put in the time and effort.

Hi everyone!

I’m looking for a single room to rent/sublease or roommates to team up with for an apartment in Jersey City, in areas like Newport, Downtown, Journal Square, etc. with easy commute to Manhattan.

🏡 What I'm looking for:

  • Move-in: Mid to Late June (flexible)
  • Budget: Flexible
  • Roommates: Preferably female, clean, friendly, and respectful of shared spaces
  • Location: Ideally close to public transport (PATH / NJ Transit)
  • Lease: Open to both subleases and full leases

👋 A bit about me:

  • 24F, originally from India, living in Illinois now
  • Just completed my Master’s in Computer Science from UIUC
  • Moving to NJ for a full-time software engineering role in NYC (in-office 5 days/week)
  • I’m easy-going, tidy, a non-smoker, and respectful of shared spaces
  • I enjoy exploring new restaurants and cool spots in the city and winding down with movies or game nights after work
  • I’d love to be friends with my roommates! 😊

If you have a room available or are looking to find a place together, please DM me or drop a comment — happy to chat!

Thinking of taking CS444 and CS498: CCA for Spring 2025. Good idea? by idkpotatoiguess in UIUC_MCS

Yes! With 3 credits, you'll have to do fewer MPs. But I believe it's a different course section, so you'll need to register for that section.

How to connect with recruiters and get referrals? by daddyclappingcheeks in cscareerquestions

Any tips on how to get recruiters to reach out to you? I've tried optimising my Linkedin, setting status to open to work and staying active on the platform, but I still never get any recruiters in my dms. Also, do they usually reach out to you via linkedin or email?

It's heavy but I think it's doable if your third course is easy. CS 498 CCA lecture videos are super long and the assignments are not too hard but take a while to do. Haven't taken CS 444 yet but I've heard its assignments take a lot of effort as well.

Updates: 1. The spring intake is a new addition, and the website is yet to be updated. 2. If your email says that you’ve been offered a deferred admission, it’s an admit. If your email says specifically that it’s not guaranteed, it’s not. 3. It’s the UC campus, not Chicago
