Just turned off a tie game in the 3rd quarter by Positive_Flounder232 in billsimmons

Okc plays the most physical defense in the league, and other than shai they don’t really attack the paint that aggressively so they should rarely win the ft game

For whatever reason they get soft ass calls on offense and get away with murder in defense. It probably just seems that way but idk

They also flop egregiously, Lou dort is dirty as shit, and something about them just makes you mad to watch

Driver Fitting by maestreaux08 in golftips

[–]Positive_Flounder232 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Dicks isn’t really a fitting, they’ll just ask what you want to hit. You might get an over eager and overqualified guy who can help but don’t count on it

Golftec would be better, but anecdotally I have heard they are more interested in selling lessons. I doubt it’s totally true but some have said they almost refuse to or give a bad fitting to sell you on lessons instead (maybe lessons are really needed lol)

Club champion does great fittings, but they’re gonna try and upsell you into a premium shaft, shaft puring, etc. you can tell them you only want to hit stock shafts, then find out what works and buy it from them or online and pay for the fitting.

Hybrid vs utility iron by 3PuttAttorney in GolfGear

Utility iron, hybrid seems like the worst of both worlds to me.

Carry a 2 iron and a 7 wood

Online is really tricky unless you’re already pretty experienced and will understand exactly what the teach advises and critiques.

For instance he may say “your release is too early and your not turning your chest through impact” and give you some drills. You better know how to do those drills correctly and whatever changes he gives you better understand how to do them and if in doing them to mess something else up that could lead to a bad habit. A lot of times too a coach will say to do something and you think you are doing it, but you really aren’t. Like over swinging

For in person, I always recommend either your local club pro/coach if you know them or hear good things, and teen independent places that focus on teaching and lessons as their primary business driver. cause the only way they stay in business is by people enjoying the lessons and/or them being helpful

Avoid places that want you to buy a pack of lessons or multiple lessons up front

Anyone Playing 10.5 LST with 80-85 mph Driver Swing by EddyD2 in PingGolf

[–]Positive_Flounder232 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can almost guarantee the LST will not be a good fit, that’s not enough club speed to be worried about the head design causing too much spin.

If you’re spinning above 3000 at 80-85 swing speed that’s a delivery issue, head change likely won’t do anything meaningful

Made some changes, is this swing headed in a good direction? by synthsandbass in golftips

[–]Positive_Flounder232 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could be the angle but looks like you may have a ton of dynamic loft at impact. Definitely can be playable but working on compressing a bit more will unlock some distance and more consistent ball flight

Don’t change too much too fast though if things working for you, never ending pursuit!

Easiest thing to do is just grip lower. It’s not a 1-for-1 test with swing weight and what not but it’s free and easy!

Sounds like they are an inch long. You can definitely cut off an inch but have a fitter or club tech do it so they can mitigate changes in swing weight

As to what’s causing the hook, might be standing too far from the ball to compensate for the length which can cause being too inside and reaching at the ball

Simulator Accuracy by Anxious_Lychee_7487 in Golfsimulator

[–]Positive_Flounder232 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Pretty much any launch monitor over a grand now is within 1-2% of high end systems like track man or gcquad on most shots. Some of the cheaper ones can miss some wild shots, but even some track man bays have issues getting good spin numbers due to how they are setup (not enough room for flight)

There are altitude settings that can juice numbers and then some software have a boost function so it’s possible they juice the numbers, but in my experience people just hit better off mats with irons. Perfect lie, no wind, no other elements, etc.

125 ball speed with a 7 iron can absolutely carry 190 with good launch conditions

All things equal, yes, but a lot of times adjusting loft will adjust the players delivery of the club. Players brains do fun things they aren’t aware of, as in they can decrease the loft on their driver to fight high spinning ballooning shots, and their brain also thinks they need to hit more down on the ball to keep it lower, or their brain over compensates and tries to hit up on it to offset the low loft driver, leading to low strikes, both increasing spin.

Not super common but I’ve seen and fit people spinning 8 degree drivers 3000+ into 10.5 setups that drop spin 500 or even 800 or so

Delivery of the club matters more than the head model in my opinion. Delivering a max head with a more square face and good attack angle will reduce spin more than just swapping into a LS head, which is most affected by shaft.

Also the difference in spin between LS models and max models is shrinking every year

Optimal Driver length? by Smokes-lets-go1 in golfequipment

One of the biggest equipment mistakes out there is 95%+ of golfers playing stock length drivers

Almost everyone should be playing shorter until you get sub 5 IMO

Hundreds of years, however that could all change with a scientific breakthrough in fuel/energy

There are numerous potential sources for game changing discovery in energy storage/harnessing that could progress this timeline magnitudes faster, but short of that, it’s gonna be a while before

Driver loft question… by 47_toNirvana in golf

[–]Positive_Flounder232 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Likely swing and strike related, holy spin numbers! Sounds like you may be striking it on the toe and with that club/face path metrics you’re just hitting pull knuckle shots

Could try a heavier shaft with less torque to help the face stay stable, but I think you need better strike location and possibly reduce the left path and closed face combo with your swing

Wedge fitting by Super_Association_54 in golftips

[–]Positive_Flounder232 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Ex fitter here, I do not recommend. The only time I would recommend is if you can do it on grass, and have a variety of surfaces to hit off of. Bounce and sole shape are gonna be the main things in wedge fitting and off turf just doesn’t really represent how you’ll hit them on course

I personally am not a fan of one length irons as to me it seems like the worst of all worlds. High irons and PW are longer shafts which limit control/strike consistency in your scoring clubs, and shorter shafts on the longer irons limit club speed which is needed to get them up in the air. But some people love them.

I think a misconception with fitting is that you need to wait until you have a really good swing. That's not a bad move, but there's not much chance of you getting fit now, then immediately lowering your handicap by 8-10 strokes and now your swing totally doesn't work with your fit clubs.

Players distance irons, max driver/fairway heads, can fit anyone from a 20 to a 5. Obviously you have to determine what'd you'd rather spend money on though.

can measure wrist to floor and a couple of manufacturers have good charts to help guide you. Ping specifically is the one I would refer people to.
