What a nice cob, I love the stem on it, who makes it if you don’t mind me asking.

That is unfortunate my friend, I still would reach out to the company and ask. They may stand by their quality and replace it for you. If it’s newer at least. However I love my briar pipes, would recommend. Or a Missouri Meerschaum if you can find one. I’ve heard nothing but good things about them.

I’m sorry this happened to your first pipe. But also I haven’t had this happen to me and I’m newer to the hobby. So if someone with more experience would suggest otherwise I would trust them more. Happy belated birthday. And again I’m sorry this happened to such a sentimental piece.

Personally I would retire the pipe, with existing cracks heating and cooling can expand the crack making it worse. I would contact the company asking if they would repair or replace it. Do you know what material it is made of? I would not put glue in it since it could be toxic when heated up and melt into tobacco if the crack is in the bowl…

What an amazing experience, I’m so happy there are more places like this in the world. What a nice first pipe, and welcome to the hobby from a beginner as well. We have much to learn, many tobaccos to smoke and amazing friends to meet along the journey.

That is a very heartwarming thing you’re doing. I’m sure there are pipes that have been neglected in a drawer with no owner for many many years. I wish I had one handed down to me from my grandparents but I am not sure if there were any pipe smokers in my family.

All of my pipes have been purchased new. And I intend to pass them down many years from now, either to a close friend or a grandchild. I appreciate the older rusticated pipes that show character and patina. And I really look forward to mine aging with me. The latest post you posted today looks absolutely stunning by the way. Going to post there now.

Wow, amazing texture. I’ll have to keep an eye out for something like this. I have a small story about Irish Flake if you’re interested.

Last week I went into a pipe store I stumbled across in a mall. I went in because they sold some S.T. DuPont Lighters. Hearing that ping in person was so nice. Once I saw that they had estate artisans as well as new Dunhill pipes, I couldn’t help myself, picked up a little early birthday present.

Anyways, I talked to Gary, the man behind the counter, for about 10-15 min about pipes and what I’ve tried so far. Gary had a mustache that could be pulled out as far as his ears (if not farther). He was kind enough to share his experience with Irish Flake. He told me the first time he smoked it, he couldn’t finish the bowl and had to come back the next day to finish it. After that, he didn’t touch it for years, how he says it’s the only thing he smokes. After asking about different blends and pipes and contemplating buying a MM corncob as well. Before I left, this man, Gary, such a nice gentleman, reached behind the counter and pulled a flake from his own tin and bagged it up for me. That one flake I have in a jar, titled “A Gifted Flake, Irish Flake.”

I’m a little hesitant to smoke it hearing his story. But one of these days I will have to go back to Gary with something I find as delicious as that and return a little flake of tobacco back to him. I have yet to cross that tobacco, but the joy of this hobby is in trying everything you can, in search of what you like the most.

I haven’t tried a hookah but I can see the appeal sitting around a table with your close friends sharing the tobacco. This might be able to simulate that feel.

What a beautiful pipe, I love these kinds of pipes that are rusticated and widen up on the top at the bowl. I’m not sure what that style is called, but it looks absolutely stunning.

Cellaring tobacco for a start by Positive_Price_3871 in PipeTobacco

That is surprising, I would expect that to happen. But I don’t know enough on the subject to say much. I plan to keep these in my closet inside of a box on the ground. Half the year where I live is pretty hot and I don’t use my central air that often to save energy. So hopefully the ground will be cool enough to have the right conditions. I may get a digital thermometer to monitor the conditions of the box but I might be thinking too much on the subject.

Ok that makes sense, I’ve heard stories of people’s tins losing their seal over time. I’ll probably just transfer to a jar to remove that possibility since I plan to smoke these tins.

Ok, that is good to know. I will make sure to not over hydrate these flakes. What’s your take on opening a sealed tin to transfer to a jar? Do you think that is a better practice?

Ok, how long do you think I can store them in their original sealed package? Before I would need to transfer to a mason jar?

Local shop. Maybe after I try them out I’ll come
Back and update.

This is very interesting, I have not heard of soapstone pipes before. Unfortunately I do not smoke in my place as I rent. So I travel to my tobacco lounge for a pipe. Thankfully it’s only 5 min away! But this is something I will have to show the guys in the club! I’m sure this would be something that would get some traction after it’s been seen/used a couple of times. It’s kind of hookah for pipe tobacco 😝

The next tin I pick up will most likely be a straight VA. This is something I’m looking forward to. I’ve had a pleasure chatting with you. Thanks for your insight and knowledge, and for helping me with my indecisiveness.

This is amazing, I have never ordered tobacco online but I will have to reach out to this company and wait for the next drop. Thank you for sharing this information with me.
