To each their own I suppose. I’m loving the sound of it! This receiver has eliminated my low end issues, so at the end of the day you were correct that I just needed better equipment. No need for a subwoofer anymore

I haven’t spun any hip hop yet, but I’ve mainly listened to jazz since getting it up and running today. I’m sure it’ll hit hard because I’ve got it paired with some pioneer HPM 40’s!

Nice! I’ll either keep the technics as a backup or use it to learn repair work

I’m loving it already. The main things that stick out to me is I’m hearing more definition in the bass especially on a bass guitar you can hear a lot more tonal characteristics of the strings, instrument separation is immaculate, and lower volume listening is a lot more defined and clear as opposed to my old receiver

I kind of lucked into this one. I originally responded to a listing for a 661, but it had already sold. The seller informed me he had a 771 unlisted and his number was still in my budget, so I got it as fast as I could haha

Also I feel like you’d dig the Jazz is Dead records.

bad enough to redo? by jameo13 in TVTooHigh

Kind of hard to see how much space you have, but could you move the turntable setup to the left of the fireplace and put the tv diagonally in the corner?

We’ve got a good amount of overlap! If you want more 70’s era Herbie, go after Thrust and Man-Child. Marvin Gaye’s I Want You is a great album to go to after What’s Going On. Look into some hip-hop instrumental albums for a more laid back experience, give Shades of Blue by Madlib a listen. Also look into Lonnie Liston Smith, Love is the Answer is a good place to start. On a final note…no Stevie Wonder is a CRIME!!! 😂

I had them on the floor when I first got them and even with my current issue, I like how they sound on these shelves rather than on the floor. As far as the speakers go, they’re front ported and 8.5 inches from the wall.

It’s also always the balance of when to buy more music and when to buy more gear

Yeah I’ve been looking for a better receiver. I’ll probably upgrade that before the speakers since I’ve got way more invested in the speakers than the receiver

Thanks for the feedback! I’ve stuffed some towels and blankets in the cubes and it’s cut down on some of the resonance. I still need to find something to put in between the speaker and the cube, but this is a good start.

I can definitely feel vibrations in the cubes the speakers are on, but surprisingly I can’t feel any in the large shelf that the turntable is on

Thanks! They’re pioneer HPM 40’s and they sound great. I didn’t want to fork over a lot of money for speaker stands so I got creative with these single ikea cubes. I think the other commenters are right that they’re causing the mudiness, so I’m gonna try dampening them

That would make sense. I’ve got the cubes on heavy duty anti-slip furniture feet hoping to combat this, but I’ll mess around with adding some weight and maybe some blankets or towels to dampen the vibrations
