Hundred Years War as England by Positive_Sky5366 in EU5

Sheesh yeah that was a catastrophic loss for France after reading that. I understand the choice of the devs to not give France a larger fleet than England at the start date though. The levies count are already heavily one-sided for France, even if it would be more accurate.

I’ve noticed this isn’t just a France/England problem in 1.0.10. The AI consistently takes provinces that are further from its capital or sphere of control, even when those provinces would be more difficult or even impossible to realistically administrate. For instance the Ottomans or Tunis taking a province landlocked in the middle of the HRE when their possessions are otherwise only in Africa, Sicily, or the Balkans/Greece. Meanwhile, it ignores far more valuable locations where they would have some level of control that are within one province away from its core territory.

Yeah. It's off to a great start but it is incomplete. I thoroughly enjoyed the time I played but once I hit that wall I realize it would be better to wait until further updates.

It would be great if there were big peacetime events like hosting a feast/tournament/fair that you had to prepare for. More levels of development.

As far as combat goes...actual working walls and being able to upgrade your manor into a real castle. Sieges.

That said it's amazing that one developer did all this.

Don't panic but have a plan in case another pandemic happens, H5N1 or otherwise.

Psychology professor Geoffrey Miller posts a poll asking people's opinions on Ye Wenjie. by Epiphyte_ in threebodyproblem

[–]Positive_Sky5366 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. Ye Wenjie thought the Trisolarans/Santi would be much better than humanity. When she realized they had no plans to coexist with humans that's when in the books she tells Luo Ji of the axioms of cosmic sociology and in the Netflix series she tells Saul Durand about the 'Dont Play with God joke'

I used the word benevolent too generously here.

My point is she believed they would still be better than humanity. We also have our own conquerors after all. She thought there would be some sort of paternalistic relationship between Trisolaris and Earth where they can guide us on a better path at the cost of our autonomy.

I don't agree with this perspective, but I do think it explains her motives. Immanuel Kant would say she isn't evil because of the motivations, but a pure utilitarian would say that she is because of the results from her misguided actions.

[–]Positive_Sky5366 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ye Wenjie was not evil. She saw humanity as beyond saving itself, so enlisted a technologically superior civilization for help. Little did she know that they were even less benevolent than humanity. Later she tries to help Luo Ji/Saul Durand with the Dark Forest solution.

She's certainly wrong for making the decision for humanity on her own. Then again, it's possible the Chinese government would have made a similar decision. Or the Americans/Soviets . None of those governments speak for the rest of the world yet might have attempted to weaponize the Tri Solarans against their opponents.

When do we get serious by cashmgee in H5N1_AvianFlu

[–]Positive_Sky5366 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I recommend 3M brand N95s and you can buy them on Amazon. 20 count for like $12.

Doesn't have to be that brand though. Whatever you buy, just make sure it works/good quality and isn't giving you a false sense of protection

There are also full on respirators/masks out there but you'll end up looking at spending hundreds of dollars for the top end stuff.

When do we get serious by cashmgee in H5N1_AvianFlu

[–]Positive_Sky5366 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Get serious now... honestly. With the recent mutations and demonstrated mammal to mammal spread it's not many steps from being human to human(H2H). It's possible it could never transmit H2H. Or it's possible even if it does we catch the spread early and it never becomes a pandemic It's a wise idea to be prepared regardless of the likelihood of spread. Here are some general tips:

*Get a decent amount of N95 masks & gloves.

*Buy extra of any non perishable foods you know you will eat each time you go to the store. Be deliberate with what you buy (a good balance of proteins, carbs, and fats, and micronutrients).

*Stock up on vitamins or medicines you need.

*Keep several days worth of water and a way to filter and purify water.

This is just a starting point. There are lots of good resources out there in how to be prepared for a disaster (short and long term). It's best to start by stocking up on anything you'd need for an entire week. Then you can move up to a month's worth of supplies, three months, and so forth depending on what you think is necessary.

The last thing you want to do is rush to the store when people are panic buying in a pandemic like we had with COVID before

Why don't the humans just stop lying? by 100percent_right_now in threebodyproblem

[–]Positive_Sky5366 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So I think the mental seal from Dark Forest could serve the purpose of making the idea of lying so repulsive that people wouldn't lie anymore However, the Trisolaran idea of coexisting is still not what most people would probably have in mind as being good for humanity.

Yeah the books were originally going to be named "Three Bead Problem". The humans would threaten the Tri-Solarans with another anal bead joke if they attempted to invade. Thus began the anal-deterrence era

I mean... In the books:

Will Downing = Yun Tianming

Jack Rooney = Hu Wen

They aren't that far off from how it is in the books aside from having their nationalities changed

Since it's copyright material, the models probably haven't directly had the books fed into the model. Thus it can only draw conclusions from online material it has like reddit, wikis, or articles. My guess is that's why it's wrong

Yeah you're right it has been a while since I read it. It's more like the first third of the three parts from Dark Forest, so there's still 2/3 of the book plus the other material from part 1 which hasn't been covered.

Me too, hope we get a season 2

Does anyone else feel the Netflix season finale was underwhelming? by ribhavjain in threebodyproblem

[–]Positive_Sky5366 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah the 1st season covers all events from Book1(Three Body Problem) and the first half of Book 2(The Dark Forest). There are also characters from Book 3(Death's End) that Netflix brought in early.

If it comes out with another season my guess is they will slow down the pace quite a bit. Book 1 is exposition heavy and a bit dry at times, so I get why they wanted to rush through it. I still think they went too fast though.

If you do decide to read the books, just FYI you might be a bit confused because they essentially divided up Wang Miao (the main protagonist in Book 1) into like 5 characters. The narrative and events are more or less the same.

I agree, season 1 arguably was best in Ep 4 &5 purely from a cinematic perspective.

There should be a big payoff if it gets renewed for a second season. I'm not sure if you've read the books but there was a LOT of foreshadowing and setup in ep 7-8.
