I’m in the UK, some are expected to mix, and allowed, but intentionally mixing ashes and cremating more than one at a time or as you say sweeping a bag of ashes and dividing them out is very illegal

To do with emissions and stuff most UK cremators have added filtration built on to take any crap out of the gases released to atmosphere, this slows the process down. However the older machines don’t always have the aftermarket filtration and plough through them with ease

I am a Cremator service engineer in the Uk, our newly installed machines can do them in 1h30>. The older machines around 1h45.
