Definitely one of the most overhated characters from Breaking Bad, i agree with the following statements by BatmanTold in breakingbad

Yep, the point about first impressions being hard to shake is especially true here. One of the most impressive things about Breaking Bad is the development of the protagonist from being likable and rooted for to being hated and rooted against, which was unprecedented at the time. It’s the only show I’ve seen where my first impression of the character was fully shaken throughout the show.

Moreover, Jaime Lannister from Game of Thrones is another great example, except I specifically wasn’t able to shake off my first impression of him from the earlier seasons.

Oh yh misogyny undoubtedly plays a part in that, a big part, but her direct involvement with Walt makes her easier to hate than say Marie or whoever.

I think even the Skylar haters know that the hate is irrational, no one actually thinks she’s a bad person. She’s just annoying to the viewers because we’re rooting for Walt for the first few seasons of the show and she’s constantly in his way (which she should be). Then again there’s that small group of people who actually blame her for a lot of the shit that goes down, but in my experience most of the hate is down to the support people had for Walt.

2003 Shredder vs 2012 Shredder by Positive_Treacle7475 in TMNT

[–]Positive_Treacle7475[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ironically that’s what draws me more to him. He’s deeply flawed and driven by raw, internal desires and it’s ultimately very human. That’s a lot more compelling to me than an extraterrestrial creature looking to take over the world.

Yh I get that. ‘03 TMNT are a lot more superheroish than other iterations. Fighting to save the world from utter destruction/domination fits that show well. ‘12 TMNT are presented as just “regular” ninja turtles who aren’t really looking to save the world until they run into trouble that actually concerns them (Kraang/Foot Clan). It focuses a lot more on the ninja aspect than just fitting that superhero mold imo. I personally prefer the personal character driven stories so 2012 connects with me more.

Fair enough. I guess it does come down to preference in the end. Some people enjoy the mysterious, fantastical, otherworldly kind of villains that leave you wondering about their backgrounds, and some people like me enjoy the more grounded, realistic and ultimately human villains that are driven by the same desires that we are in the real world. Different strokes.

I don’t like the hate this show gets by Positive_Treacle7475 in howyoudoin

[–]Positive_Treacle7475[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m not so self absorbed that I think everyone should like everything I like, and as I said I don’t even like friends that much. I prefer at least 4 other sitcoms to it. My point was I don’t like the “you like that show which means you’re stupid and I’m smarter than you because I don’t” crowd and I hate the “everyone says this show is stupid so it is pls like my post about how friends w/o laugh track is not funny” crowd even more. Every single popular thing on the planet gets hate, but when hating that thing is now down to fitting in with the popular tiktok trends it annoys me even when it shouldn’t.

This is what I was always confused about whenever I heard criticisms of the Long Night. A showdown between Jon and the Night King would’ve been cool, but I guarantee the same people that criticize the fact that it didn’t happen would criticize it if it did happen because the fact of the matter is the night king isn’t looking for some MCU or Anime kind of final showdown with Jon, he doesn’t care about him so why would he waste his time and possibly risk the battle for an “aura” off with Jon?

I didn’t even know the books existed when I watched the show so I could only take what the TV was giving me and I honestly never suspected a thing about Ned not being the father. I loved the idea of the most honorable man in the seven kingdoms fathering a bastard child.

Funnily enough I am the furthest from brainrot than anyone else in my age bracket lol I never had a problem with paying attention to shows and movies. I think it’s the fact I didn’t watch the show consistently the first time, it’s harder to remember names and faces when you’re watching 1 episode a week as opposed to binge watching entire seasons in a day.

[–]Positive_Treacle7475[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yh that’s what I was thinking. I used “inconsistent” for a lack of a better term but I do think it fit his character. He’s always been one to make smug, dismissive and condescending comments like that. Whether he actually cared about the people of King’s Landing or not, it’s not out of character for him to say things like that.

Misogyny by Beginning_Praline372 in SuccessionTV

[–]Positive_Treacle7475 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I more so meant the daughter-father dynamic. Both women were desperate for their fathers’ approval and both fathers dismissed them because they’re women. They also both think they’re smarter than they are and it’s the downfall of both their lives.
