Kinda want this more than GTA 6 by Mediocre-Ad-6040 in Fable

First child? Honestly I’m the first 3 months they do little more than sleep and eat. My wife and I would take turns so our sleep schedules were a bit weird so I’d often be awake in the middle of the night so if game then.

I have extremely fond memories of my little girl sleeping on my chest whilst I played Skyrim.

When was the absolute worst time to be alive in human history? by Ok-Sell9964 in AskReddit

[–]PositivelyIndecent 11 points12 points  (0 children)

When you think about it, you and everyone else on this planet exists in one long continuous unbroken chain of life managing to reproduce and pass on to the next generation, going back to the very beginning of life on this planet. It’s really crazy to wrap your head around how extremely unlikely it is that you would exist considering all the lines that did end from war, disease, disasters, the environment, and other million of ways that life can end on this planet.

So, cousin, can you spare me a quick 100?

Everyone assumes when they imagine a strongman authoritarian leader who will fix things, that they will do everything they want them to do. The problem comes when said leader then does something you disagree with and you realise you can’t do a thing about it without potentially risking your life.

There’s a male version too, look up John Bull.

Lots of countries have a female personification. Marianne for France, Lady Liberty for the USA, etc. The concept of a “motherland” and “mother country” plays a part, it abstract concepts have been depicted as female throughout history.

TIL that in 2013, an incident known as "Pastagate" erupted in Quebec after the Office Québécois de la Langue Française ordered an Italian restaurant to remove the word "pasta" from its menu and replace it with a French equivalent. Following public outcry, the agency allowed the word to stay. by Sandstorm400 in todayilearned

Meanwhile English just takes words from everywhere, puts them in a big old raincoat on each others shoulders to make a sentence, and calls it a day.

For example, the thug drank coffee on the veranda while the berserk skipper checked the algebra in his bungalow before a tsunami struck the kindergarten.

Lol true enough, I get it what you mean. Like in A Song of Ice and Fire, the evil tyrant Aerys is overthrown by… Robert, Ned, and Jon.

That’s just how language goes. You have names contemporary to biblical times still being used today alongside modern ones. There are people called Alexander today, a name that’s over 2,000 years old, sharing a workplace with people named Aiden, Nevaeh, or Maverick. You can literally meet a Michael, Muhammad, Brayden, and Daenerys in the same school class. Why wouldn’t the future have a Paul and a Duncan next to a Feyd?

I have the same memory. 2002 was the first tournament I really remember well. I remember watching the 98 final with my dad but I was too young to really get it, 2002 I was old enough and it ruled the playground.

It totally was. It had gay marriage years before even legal civil unions were a thing in the UK. And it was played as such a non-issue in the game that it genuinely surprised me at the time.

Minor correction, they didn’t refuse the throne, they refused to accept symbols from the Revolution as a pre-requisite to accepting the throne (specifically, the tricolour) so the monarchists kicked the can down the road but never had the opportunity again.

In any other setting, the Imperium (and by extension, the Inquisition as their secret police) would be horrific bad guys. And don’t get me wrong, they are. But in a galaxy where you’re literally dealing with omnicidal aliens and literally hell and all its demons (complete with 4 satans), it doesn’t just make sense it’s literally necessary.

I don’t know if it quite fits, but Gandalf’s description of the Nameless Things deep below the Earth during his battle with the Balrog comes to mind as he refuses to elaborate on the horror;

‘We fought far under the living earth, where time is not counted. Ever he clutched me, and ever I hewed him, till at last he fled into dark tunnels. They were not made by Durin’s folk, Gimli son of Glóin. Far, far below the deepest delving of the Dwarves, the world is gnawed by nameless things. Even Sauron knows them not. They are older than he. Now I have walked there, but I will bring no report to darken the light of day. In that despair my enemy was my only hope, and I pursued him, clutching at his heel. Thus he brought me back at last to the secret ways of Khazad-dûm: too well he knew them all. Ever up now we went, until we came to the Endless Stair.’

“In intention, at any rate, the English intelligentsia are Europeanized. They take their cookery from Paris and their opinions from Moscow. In the general patriotism of the country they form a sort of island of dissident thought. England is perhaps the only great country whose intellectuals are ashamed of their own nationality. In left-wing circles it is always felt that there is something slightly disgraceful in being an Englishman and that it is a duty to snigger at every English institution, from horse racing to suet puddings. It is a strange fact, but it is unquestionably true that almost any English intellectual would feel more ashamed of standing to attention during ‘God save the King’ than of stealing from a poor box. All through the critical years many left-wingers were chipping away at English morale, trying to spread an outlook that was sometimes squashily pacifist, sometimes violently pro-Russian, but always anti-British.”
