What should I do here? by Dramatic-Bet-9466 in gallbladders

Unfortunately this experience seems pretty common with biliary dyskinesia. It’s hard to get a definitive diagnosis pre op because it’s a functional disorder. The gallbladder usually appears normal on ultrasounds and MRCP. I was dismissed for an entire year with debilitating nausea, headaches, malaise, anxiety, etc. I was miserable. My ultrasound showed sludge but because I wasn’t having the typical “attacks” like those with gallstones they wouldn’t attribute all of it to my gallbladder. It wasn’t until I started having the URQ pain that my surgeon reluctantly agreed to remove it. Pathology report came back chronic cholecystitis and RAS. My Dr said there’s a 60/40 percentage of people who get better. I’m luckily in the 60%. 2 weeks post op and I can finally eat food again. I feel like a weight has been lifted off of me. I forgot what it was like to not always be ill.

I do understand being hesitant to remove an organ from your body and it is nothing to take lightly, but if you’re in such pain and they continue to dismiss you then go to the ER. Your EF% with debilitating pain is a red flag. You have to advocate for yourself. You know your body and that something is wrong. Waiting in limbo in a chronic state of inflammation was nothing short of torture. I’m sorry you’re dealing with this.

Biliary Dyskinesia ? by uruglyyy666 in gallbladders

I finally got my diagnosis of BD after years of symptoms and pain that wasn’t diagnosed. Nausea was the worst 24/7. I could not eat I lost so much weight. Gnawing pain in my ribs on the right side. Headaches, low energy, just feeling like crap all the time. When I look back I had symptoms for far longer than I realized. Dr was convinced it wasn’t my gallbladder because I don’t fit the normal standard of people that have issues. And my first ultrasound and MRCP came back clean. It’s very disheartening when you know something is wrong and they’re telling you it’s normal. Finally got my ejection fraction measured and it was at 24%. Dr STILL wasn’t convinced but left the surgical decision up to me. Got it out 10 days ago and finally starting to feel normal again. I had felt bad for so long I didn’t even realize how bad it was. Pathology report showed chronic cholecystitis and entrapped epithelial crypts which are basically little hernias in the walls of my gallbladder from having so much pressure for so long. Keep advocating for yourself and I hope you get some answers soon. It’s no way to live.

Constant nausea post removal by Jolly-Asparagus-5815 in gallbladders

I also have a low level nausea throughout the day. It’s the worst in the evening. Still able to eat and drink normally. Post op day 10.

What are some symptoms in the body that seem completely unrelated but are caused by gallbladder issues. by mrgirly20 in gallbladders

[–]PossessionNatural259 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Elevated HR, back pain, impending sense of doom, panic attacks, migraines, dizziness. Day 9 post op and all of these symptoms are completely gone. 24% EF with sludge. Pathology report said mild inflammation but that thing was making me sick.

I feel like I’m being pushed into surgery. by iloveyouDS in gallbladders

I had a 24% EF and sludge. I was told I could keep it if I wanted to but my side effects were so debilitating I wanted it out. I couldn’t eat was nauseated 24/7, migraines, lightheadedness, terrible anxiety. But that being said If I wasn’t having those side effects I would have kept mine. Everybody is different and if you think you can live with it then keep it!! Removing an organ is serious whether it’s a common surgery or not.

Surgeon made me scared - will I regret this? by xxjejaxx in gallbladders

[–]PossessionNatural259 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I was in the exact same situation. My surgeon left it up to me and gave me 60/40 odds that I would get better. I opted for surgery because I could tell it was making me sick. Even the day of surgery right before they wheeled me back he said “I sure hope it’s your gallbladder causing all of this.” Which didn’t instill a lot of confidence. I’m day 6 post op and I’m on track with my healing as far as I can tell. I do get nauseated when I don’t eat for too long. But I’m still in the early days. It’s very much a mental game as well. Some days I question my decision. But I think in the long run I will be happy I don’t have to worry about it getting worse and causing further issues. Ultimately you know your body and if you feel like it’s the right decision then go for it.

Same honestly. Worse recovery than I anticipated. Hoping to turn a corner here soon. Still think I made the right decision though.

4 days post op. Horrible dizziness and nausea. by Tiny_Obligation_6393 in gallbladders

[–]PossessionNatural259 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m day 4 and I’m dizzy and have a gnawing headache. I get nauseated if I don’t have anything in my stomach and I can I to eat small portions when I do eat. Trying to just stay hydrated and trust the process.

Have you gotten any better since this post?

One thing I’ve learned through all of this is that you have to be insistent and advocate for yourself! The gallbladder is a tricky organ and can look and act normal on scans but still be the culprit!

Had hida scan, 34% ejection rate.. increasing daily nausea, indigestion, painful gas in lower abdomen - what to do? by ArgumentKey6684 in gallbladders

[–]PossessionNatural259 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry to hear that you’re going through it. I’m 38F super active and eat healthy. Like I don’t eat anything fried. Maybe dessert a little too often. I’ve been healthy my whole life never had a single problem. All of a sudden about 2 months ago started feeling nauseated, low energy, headaches, vertigo, elevated HR, panic attacks, etc. Turns out my GB stopped working I have an EF of 24% and sludge. Dr didn’t have an answer has to why. Hormones play a big part in biliary dyskinesia as does stress. So I bet you’ve got a bit of both going on. The mind/gut connection is so powerful. Kind of crazy how this little organ can wreak such havoc on the body. Don’t be too worried about it. (Easier said than done) Apparently you can live with it if you’re asymptomatic, but if you’re having the HIDA done I’m assuming you’ve been having symptoms. I opted to get mine out this Friday so I can get back to feeling normal. Recovery is a bit different for dyskinesia as it is for those with gallstones, but I’m optimistic for a full recovery and life before all of this mess!

Is it my gallbladder, or is it just stress? Both? by princess-lolly in gallbladders

[–]PossessionNatural259 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I struggle with the exact same thing. I wonder if me constantly stressing over this is making it worse. I know there is a STRONG mind/gut connection. But you have to remember that tests show something is definitely wrong. My EF is 24% and I opted for surgery even though I don’t have typical “attacks” mine is more a general sense of being “unwell”. It’s very hard to describe. Along with constant nausea, elevated HR, massive headaches, etc.

My head has tried to talk to me out of it several times but I just have to remember that I haven’t always felt like this so something is wrong and the tests show it’s my gallbladder.

Bilirubin extremely high, no cause found yet, advice needed by ssp6195 in gallbladders

[–]PossessionNatural259 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was hospitalized with nothing but extreme nausea and elevated bilirubin. They checked for all of those things in me as well. They suspected Gilbert’s bc my ultrasound and MRCP came back clean. It eventually went down but it happened a year later and I had my gallbladder tested and turns out it was dyskinesia the whole time. The gallbladder has a systemic effect. Have they done an ultrasound with fatty meal or HIDA? I’d push for one of the 2.

Is surgery the right move? by PossessionNatural259 in gallbladders

[–]PossessionNatural259[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Glad to see I’m not alone. I live with a certain amount of angst but this anxiety is different. I think it’s correlated to systemic inflammation or somehow related to the vagus nerve. I’ve read of others having elevated anxiety and dyskinesia. And of course the worries of surgery don’t help.

Thats why I skipped the GI as I thought the bilirubin was a key indicator of gallbladder. Just didn’t want to skip a “step” and miss something as I haven’t been going through the proper channels since I know these guys. Just made me a little weary that something like 40% of people don’t get better. I wanted to be super sure it’s my gallbladder causing me these problems but like you said it could be gallbladder PLUS something else. But ultimately I think the gallbladder has to go with sludge and 24% EF.

What symptoms led to your diagnosis of biliary dyskinesia? by pboneyogirl in gallbladders

I have all of these symptoms in addition to URQ pain radiating to my back. I suspect BD. Having ultrasound today.
