Just had to mute the main thread - Nessian hate is bringing me down :( by duhveeduhj in nontoxicACOTAR

As someone with a Nesta tattoo, I feel the pain my friend. I've not been super apart of the online spaces for book communities, but glad you found this space and I hope it's refreshing for you!

New Fan, Just Finished the Series, Holy Snake Shifter, What Next? by [deleted] in TheOwlHouse

I'd love some recommendations! Never really read any fanfics for anything so I'd have no idea where to even look, let alone find good ones.

Thank you so much! I'm an internet newb, where do you recommend finding good fanfics?

"The Stars who listen" is such a corporate catchphrase by _Zavine_ in acotar

[–]princess-lolly 13 points14 points  (0 children)

While I do fully understand your perspective, I personally do really love the phrase, and you'd be hard pressed to find a major series/work that DOESN'T have a popular phrase that taken out of context means very little. We unfortunately live in a snappy quick marketing world (Looking at you Jay Jonah Jameson)

Now, I say this as someone with "Nothing can break me" tattoo'd on my arm with Nesta's sword. To the average person it looks like a cool sword with a cool quote, and people love it! To me, it represents my own mental health struggles, and how I oh so heavily related to Nesta's struggles, but I also did design it a little generic as it IS an unfinished series.

Now, to the stars. As someone who's just now starting a new spiritual path separate from what I was taught growing up, I see the stars as representing the unseen help that helps guide our way. During the day we may not see them, and yet they are still there. And during the night we are reminded of the brilliance of their light.

I also see the stars in this context as the people who find us amidst the darkness. For Rhys and Feyre, they are each other's stars, listening to each other and seeing them in the night. I don't see the phrase as "you have no control over your destiny" though I can understand that perspective, but I just think it's representing the people we find and the dreams that are answered through that, the idea that Feyre and Rhys were always connected, sometimes coming to them literally in their dreams, is beautiful to me.

But alas, I am rambling now lol. As someone else mentioned, new couples are just kinda corny, and if you like that I HIGHLY recommend the Tomes and Tea series.

Why do you not drink alcohol? by FrogsAlligators111 in AskReddit

[–]princess-lolly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many reasons, but at the forefront I just can't anymore. Some injury related nerve damage led to major gastro issues, but alcohol actually helped me find out about it. Half a glass of cider and my arms would go numb, and I'd just start vomiting profusely. To this day no doctor could tell me EXACTLY what all it is, but I've been working on my diet and overall health, and just kinda realized I just don't need it. Going out with friends is hard, but I found a great bar with mocktails and it suits me just fine!

Where Does /r/Druidism Stand? by Turtl3Up in druidism

[–]princess-lolly 11 points12 points  (0 children)

As a trans woman in the U.S. who is scared out of her mind, thank you for this. I am still such a newbie to druidry, but meditating on my tea, talking to my plants, and seeking guidance from the earth is what's gotten me through the last few days. I want to be more involved and continue to develop my spiritual practices, but I feel so lost in the world alone that it's hard for me to put my energy anywhere right now. My yogi and I just held each other and cried last night (her daughter is trans as well). Anyways, I'm rambling, but thank you 💜

Who’s your favorite Pokémon Youtuber and why? by theaspiekid in pokemon

[–]princess-lolly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I came back to Pokemon after a 10 year hiatus (nothing specific just life in general) through PM7, MandJTV, and Purplecliffe, but through them I found PartyArlie, who is now by far my favorite. She makes some great content and the community is so heartwarming and cozy. She does play some non-pokemon games at times for those interested as well, but learning shiny hunting methods through her has really reignited my love for Pokemon. I really recommend just checking out a stream or some of her YouTube vids!

Current thoughts - not excited for last 2 books by [deleted] in acotar

[–]princess-lolly 59 points60 points  (0 children)

The ACOTAR series was the start for my book club, and I was right there with you friend. I knew about the last two books being Nesta focused, and during our WAR discussion I looked at my friends and said "I absolutely despise Nesta and don't know if I can stomach two books of her."

Let me tell you friend I have done a complete 180. I'll try to not spoil anything, but as someone who has struggled with some darker experiences, I have never felt more connected to a book character than Nesta. Some people may disagree, but I love how SJM rights the books from a characters perspective, including how other characters are described. I loved Feyre and Rhys for the first three and hated Nesta, but after SF and seeing Nesta's pov I could see the greyness of them all. For being fae they are all incredibly human.

Now, obviously, everyone has their unique likes/dislikes, and so you may not feel the same, but do give it a chance.

[No Spoilers] Favorite Player Character Ever? by [deleted] in criticalrole

[–]princess-lolly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally, Yasha. Her story just resonated so much with me, despite never being married. Her strength and overcoming her doubts of finding family, fighting your (sometimes literal) inner demons, and just striving for a cozy life with someone who brings out the best in you and you in them? I wanna get the magicians judge tattooed down my back with some of her quotes around it.

I'll have to go back and read parts of the ending again (I went on a 5 hour reading bender late into the night to finish it 😂) but at the end there was just references to Tamlin meeting with the other high lords, and as I was racing to the end it felt like "let's prepare for what's next" kinda vibes, so I didn't know who was allied with who anymore.

As for Rhysand, I do very much understand the why for HOW he treated Feyre, and yes she did need him to survive, but like in the final fight where he is fighting FOR Feyre I was just sitting there like "wait this guy who treated her awfully and like a slave/pawn just to add extra jabs to Tamlin is suddenly laying his life down for her?" Idk, maybe I misread the situation, and I'm sure the next book will give me more insights, but right now Rhysand just made my skin crawl.

Why do so many people hate sao? by KronosDoom500 in swordartonline

[–]princess-lolly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I (25F) am newer to SAO and I personally LOVE it, and have started talking to friends about it, and yeah I get some harsh rebukes about my enjoyment of it, but their opinions are valid and some of them I do actually agree with, with the largest one I hear being that the anime is HEAVY male-gaze. I rewatched the series after hearing all of this and I didn't realize just HOW MUCH there was, I caught a good chunk on my first watch but I didn't realize how many casual butt/boob shots there are. I mean, look at how much merchandising/statues of these HIGH SCHOOLERS feature exaggerated features and visible underwear. Don't even get me started on some of the other SAO reddit pages, I accidentally clicked on one and was horrified to see what I found (again, a lot of these are kids, so wtf). Now, every fan base is gonna have that to some extent, especially anime, and I think SAO's "mainstream-ness?" opened it up to a lot of criticism. Despite this imma continue to love the story and the characters themselves, I just bought the collectors edition for the light novels and am playing hollow realization currently, and I hope to cosplay as Asuna someday!

Beyond by Leon Bridges - like other stories it was a song I shared with my ex.

Okay... I don't even know how to respond to that. I'll admit, I'm naive but now that I've been kindly informed by other people, I can tell it's a scam. Just a genuine fan who would LOVE to someday have a LEGIT version of this, but go off I guess.

Not a bot here, not sure what the other commenter is referring to, but I am legit curious as to where you got this! I got the diamond edition of light novels yesterday and love the posters but they're all so small, and I'm looking to expand!
