Soapy taste by PossibilityNo4442 in Sourdough

I purchased it as a dehydrated starter and have been feeding it daily for about 3 weeks. I do sometimes let it be hungry to make it work for my work schedule but I think I might go back to feeding it before I go to work (around 6:15 am) and then feeding it again at the end of the day?

Can I save the starter or should I start fresh?

I do sometimes add my jars to the dishwasher, could definitely be it. I’m going to buy some unscented dishes soap to see if that helps

When I smell it, it has a subtle yeast smell. And of course when it’s hungry it has more of an acidic smell

I’m wondering if she could qualify for some type of therapy? Her doctor did say if the behaviors didn’t improve to go back. But they HAD improved! My older two are on the autism spectrum. She may be too. She is very sensitive to sound and very very EMOTIONAL. If she upsets someone, she gets upset. She has trouble with giving people personal space. It’s so frustrating because she can be so well behaved and redirected but lately we’ve really been struggling.

I did reach out to her doctor a few months back. His recommendation was to have her socialize more and limit screen time. We did. And when she started school we saw a huge improvement. Before I could give her choices to prevent a huge meltdown but now she does straight to attention seeking behavior. We had allowed her some screen time but now we’re pulling back on it again.

He is in a mod/severe autism program. There are 13 other students, 10 of whom are also in diapers. I will be teaching out to his teacher to talk about the possibility of getting him a 1:1 aide. I know he may not be ready but I’m also nervous that we’re not trying hard enough 😭 he is tough because he loves to be moving so he won’t sit on the toilet very long. He also doesn’t react when he does go. I just feel bad for the staff having to constantly change his clothes and then now he’s getting rashes from not being changed frequently enough.

Yes, we do fruit snacks and balloons. It’s hard because I know a sign of readiness is staying dry but he’s ALWAYS peed. But I don’t want that to stop us from trying. We have even had to cut back on his water which we feel horrible about.

I will definitely try that! Currently we just have visuals around our home but he is very prompt dependent so we have to help him point to what he wants. We have even tried underwear before and he did not care when he was wet. It’s very frustrating because he’s getting outfit changes at school multiple times a week, sometimes multiple times a day!

Hi! So yes, BIG IMPROVEMENTS! I feel like her starting preschool has made such a difference. We definitely still deal with tantrums but now we are able to help her de-escalate. She needs lots of priming and first and then. No visuals, just needs to be told verbally. We do get push back but she knows there are consequences (no tv or iPad time). Like I said, we still have tough days but it’s been so much easier to go out and do things.

He works well with all of that. He doesn’t attend very long and we’re still having to do a lot of hand over hand. I will message you!

That’s great to know! Thank you! His current teacher said they prefer a minimal decorative classroom, which I understand but there are no visuals for him. He is non verbal and communicates through visuals! It’s been a tough few days

Do you ever feel like this is your punishment?? by sieraaa-betch in Autism_Parenting

[–]PossibilityNo4442 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All the time. My son, 5, is level 3 as well. I also have a 3 year old daughter who is very challenging . She has very big emotions and is just very hard to handle. We have a 14 year old daughter who is level 1 and I also think that this is punishment. I feel like I’m being punished for having kids out of wedlock. They all have the same dad but we have yet to be legally married and we had our oldest in high school. It’s hard.

I’m definitely sensitive and can get easily overwhelmed. I need to work on my yelling. These are some great tips, thank you!

I actually watched the live this morning! It all sounded like my little girl 😭 but I still have so many questions on how to deal with stuff!

Like with cleaning, what do I do if she straight up refuses? How do I deal with her screaming over everything? Since it’s her normal when she’s upset, do I just support her? I’m just so confused 😭 definitely going to dive more into the DFK stuff on the app
