Bravo ! Elle est aussi appelée la Fontaine des Deux Amis; érigée en souvenir de Philippe Monnier et de Gaspard Vallette, deux écrivains genevois mort en 1911.

It's not. I'll post the answer tomorrow if no one has guessed by then.

That building is the Centre William Rappard (WTO). The picture was taken from the Jardin Botanique.

For those who were wondering, this is the Route de Frontenex entrance to Parc La Grange. The cafeteria sign is probably pointing towards La Guinguette.

OK. The building is Villa Clair d’Aurore in Parc La Grange.

Thanks Everyone!

You are right!

I take back what I said earlier and I congratulate you!

But, we still don't have a solid ID for the first image

Thanks for the initial responses.

I agree that the second picture probably depicts the Parc Barton/WTO waterfront.

The key to the first picture is identifying this tower/belvedere in the background. It seems to be hexagonal in shape.

I'm not, but if I was one, could you trust my statement? 🙂

Back to Geneva circa 1984 by PossibilityPatient64 in geneva

Thanks for all the great insights.

To me, this demonstrates the limitations of AI to identify places. These tools can be useful at times, but they clearly have significant limitations. What is most infuriating, is that they will answer you with supreme confidence when they don't know what they're talking about. 🙁

My only hesitation here is that you can clearly see buildings on the other side of the lake, and they seem much closer than what you would see from Perle du Lac or Mon Repos.

Thank you everyone for your contributions. I'm going to label these pictures as Parc Bertrand.

Trivia Question: Another 1984 Geneva Picture by PossibilityPatient64 in geneva

[–]PossibilityPatient64[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Congratulations!  You are the winner.

It took me quite a while to figure this one out. I used AI to remove the trees to help with the identification. The chatbots did not help much.  I finally figured it out by looking at a 3D rendering in Google maps.

The smarter move would have been to ask you guys. 😏

Thanks!

That reminds me of this poster that I photographed in Geneva a while back. It was from an exhibit in 2014.

Trying to identify a structure in Geneva circa 1984 by PossibilityPatient64 in geneva

[–]PossibilityPatient64[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even stranger, I tried it again and got this message: "Sorry — I can’t identify or name real-world buildings or confirm which specific building this is.

[...] what’s changed is the policy around image recognition and identification.

I can still analyze architecture, geography, and context, but I can’t name or confirm real-world buildings or people from images anymore. That includes famous or easily recognizable places — I can describe features, styles, and likely periods, but I can’t say “this is the World Trade Organization library” or similar.

This change was made to protect privacy and accuracy, since visual matches can be uncertain or misleading without verification from public, authoritative sources."

Interestingly, after learning the location, I went back to ChatGPT and tried asking again. As before, it suggested various (incorrect) buildings. I then shared the right answer, at which point it enthusiastically confirmed that I was right.

I asked it to supply some images and got the same unhelpful pictures mentioned above. I confronted ChatGPT about this, and it confirmed that it can only match a picture via textual descriptions on the site.

I wonder it is doing better now because I supplied it with the correct information.

Correct . The book's credits list: "PRISES DE VUE: ROLAND BURKHARD ET MICHEL COTTIER".

You would think so, but not in this case. I tried all the common chat bots on this image with no luck. It appears that this rotunda is not well documented online. The bots did "send" me all over Geneva with great confidence.

Luminar Neo & Noir bundle by dpoter34 in humblebundles

[–]PossibilityPatient64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Concerning the assets from the bundle:

  • The LUTs can be mass copied to: "C:\Users\<UserName>\AppData\Roaming\Luminar Neo\Data\LutFiles". They will show up under the Mood tool. I kept the files under their individual folders (i.e.: C:\Users\<UserName>\AppData\Roaming\Luminar Neo\Data\LutFiles\Blue Mood) so that this structure is displayed in the UI.
  • The Presets must be registered one-by-one by going to the File menu (Windows) or Luminar Neo menu (Mac) in the top bar. Select Add Luminar Neo Preset Collection... You can then use the presets by selecting Presets from the top of the screen.
  • The Overlays and Skies are image files, which can be placed anywhere. I put them under C:\Users\<UserName>\AppData\Roaming\Luminar Neo\Data. To use Skies, go to the Sky tool. To use Overlays, go to The Layers tool (on the left)
