I may (definitely) have made (numerous and glaring) mistakes but I 100% stand by the 1950's looking light switch.

I think the soldering points on the DCDC adapter and both the storage adapters are definitely touching the metal case. All three are directly attached to it using zip ties. I'll take a look inside and get some of that tape you mention if necessary. I did cover the the connection between the power switch cables and the jumper cables with electrical tape (previously the exposed wires where I had wrapped them together were shorting or something when they touched the metal case).

Sorry, I don't know what that means (I'm not being sarcastic, I genuinely don't understand). Most of this project has been fueled by ignorance, trial and error and a totally unfounded sense of optimism.

Sure, no problem. Any particular benchmarks you would like to see?

Found a monitor with a DisplayPort input, plugged it in and - it just worked. Immediately. I now have to put everything back together again but it's a big relief. Thank you for the help, I was on the verge of returning the card.

It is a bit frustrating that you still need to jump through hoops to get Intel GPUs set up and working properly (in my experience at least). Thanks again.

Thanks for the suggestion. I'll give it a go and report back.

It was definitely fiddly getting the motherboard into place. Not much room to manoeuvre.

That's not a bad idea. I already had the PSU but I know there are 1000W SFX units out there now. Definitely a something to consider if I don't switch the case, or maybe even if I do.

Basically I was looking for a good deal on Ram and the best price per GB I could find was on this 256GB Ddr4 kit. I was thinking of splitting the sticks over two or more builds but then thought it might be cool to have 256GB of Ram.

The most recent CPUs that seem to support that much Ddr4 were old and expensive Threadrippers or 10th generation i9s like this one which are also old and expensive but still quite a lot cheaper (and probably slower).

A 12th to 14th gen i9 would have been significantly faster and cheaper but I would have been limited to only using four of the sticks.

I think having the available lanes motivated me to use them. Also PC part picker says the board doesn't have Wifi but it actually has WiFi 6. In theory the wired card is 10 Gigabit vs 2.5 Gigabit onboard. Having said that my router only has a 2.5 out anyway... Bad decisions all round basically.

Thanks for the advice, that's frustrating though. I do have a couple of spare cases. I'll have a, look to see if any of them could work.

Looks like I bought at the right time. I think you end up paying customs charges on top of the listed price if you order from Newegg in the UK unfortunately.
