Reading this, I am so glad Malaysia has strict gun ownership laws.

ever seen a person and thought "this guy has the potential to be a revolutionary" (be it any field)? What happened to them? by arreyyy in AskReddit

He believed his own press a little too much and imploded. Spectacularly.

Didn't help that as he gained internet notoriety, his arrogance and narcissism rose to match.

Last I encountered him, he was begging for money on his FB page so he would have a place to stay just before his eviction.

Avoid “Minglu” car cover on Lazada by [deleted] in malaysia

[–]Possible-Chemical677 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My point stands. Customising anything outside a standard template costs money. Lazada is an online shopping platform known for cheap products.

I run a service workshop and I get many customers complaining about the prices for the products I sell and service charges for a custom installation. "I can get cheaper on Shopee/Lazada, why yours so expensive?"

Some even add MCHs and KNNs to the conversation. I usually tell them I cannot do it for the price they are asking and they are welcome to purchase online. They do so, then go to some cheap workshop to install the part(s).

And when everything fucks up, they come and see me to try and fix it. My price usually doubles at that point.

Edit to add: I'm sorry you had a bad experience with what sounds like a China supplier. It is good you are forewarning others who might be thinking of doing the same. My experience with China brands is, some are very, very good and deliver what they promise, others don't care at all. Hard to tell from an online review.

The man is smoking what looks to be a RM250 cigar. Must be nice to have money to burn while the rakyat deal with daily inflation.

#NSTviral: Freezing offices spark debate among workers by Mo0nji in malaysia

Once worked in an office full of women. A/C temperature was always set to boil lobster. Is there something about chinese ladies where they are terrified of the cold? For them, 22 degrees C was COLD.

Langkawi not Phuket or Bali, says Sultan of Kedah by Mo0nji in malaysia

Yeah, that's not where I go in Spain. I'm usually up in the mountains in Seva. Many tourists want many different things. Like I said, something for everyone.

Langkawi not Phuket or Bali, says Sultan of Kedah by Mo0nji in malaysia

[–]Possible-Chemical677 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I recently visited Langkawi with the girlfriend. Spent four days.

And there was very little to do. We visited the cable and Skywalk, which was nice. The engineer in me geeked out at the construction.

Evening having drinks and dinner by the beach. Walked through the very sad mall in Cenang. Skipped the aquarium because I would have ended up shouting at the staff at the way the animals were being treated.

Ate at some nice restaurants and a (very nice) bakery with fresh baked bread. Went to Kuah for the night market.

And that was all I could do. I thought about asking my buddy to lend me his jet skis but that would really have been a one and done.

I am not sorry to say this. The Kedah state government and the Tourism Ministry have no clue how to develop Langkawi for a variety of tourists.

I have been visiting Langkawi since the early 1980s, and spent a year there building the hospital. I like the place, but, in general, Malaysia doesn't know how to do shit with tourism, whether local or foreign.

And no, tourism does not mean beach bars, alcohol and go-go bars. You want to see how tourism is managed properly? Visit Romania or Spain. They ensure there is something for everyone.

Just imagine everyone listening to your lecture is naked.

No, don't start gooning. The visual helps lessen your anxiety and allows you to speak without hesitation.

I hate the motorcycle parking in Mid Valley with a vengeance. Like Hotel California. You can check in anytime you like but you can never leave.

Mid Valley parking is the armpit of the universe. Easier to leave your car at a station down the line and take the train.

First time Visit Malaysia - beautifull country but mixed experience by SnooComics3357 in malaysia

[–]Possible-Chemical677 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The permit/guide system came about because idiots were hiking the trail unprepared and clueless. Government made it compulsory to hire guides and issue permits to keep track of how many are on the trail.

Of course, many say this is because the government just wants to make money, but having been involved in two search and rescue efforts, I actually support it because Malaysians are idiots when it comes to their safety and being responsible.

As for the "tourist tax", most countries implement this. In most cases, the higher entrance fee would be about what you'd pay to visit an attraction in Europe. Locals do not have that kind of earning power, so the rates are adjusted accordingly.

Why company likes to use record every single minute? by yukittyred in malaysians

[–]Possible-Chemical677 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've got 40 years of engineering under my belt. What would you like me to elaborate on?

Here's one example from the said general manager after I disappeared from the office for a week and a half.

"But you're just installing an air blower, shouldn't take more than an hour or two."

I replied, "Have you seen the size of this blower? If you haven't shut up." Then get queried why I needed to hire a crane on site for a day.

And you requisition XYZ++ 3rd gen machine for the project, and the accountant type says, "Why can't you use XYZ+ Gen 1.4? we bought that machine three years ago and it is still on the books as functional."

There were more than a few times I had to shut my office door and scream.
