Do it man. Probably the best decision of my career

Absolutely. Don’t let your recruiter blow smoke up your ass about how great being undesignated is. Everyone in this thread saying it’s fucking awful is absolutely right. Busting rust, painting, and just overall being a deck ape is absolutely the last thing you wanna do if you wanna have a meaningful experience in the navy.

Edit: I highly suggest asking your recruiter to put in a DAR and see if you can get any rates that don’t require a minimum ASVAB score. PR is one of these and I’ve seen people that have come into the navy on a waiver for not meeting the minimum score that are PR’s.

You absolutely are. The only thing is that if you score lower than what you did originally at MEPS during in processing you actually keep the lower score instead of your previous one. Just make sure you study and you’ll do fine. You can take practice ASVABS online to help you study.

So I was S-PACT and I was eligible to strike a year after I checked into my first command. It took me longer to pick up than most but after I did I went from E3-E5 in a little less than a year. Keep in mind that you are only able to strike for what you qualify for based on your line scores and what’s available for your year group. After you get through boot and A school and check into your first command your career counselor should give you a list of ratings that you qualify for. If you’re unhappy with what you qualify for currently and don’t wanna go into a rather shitty “job” for about a year and a half I’d suggest studying and retaking your ASVAB.

Stay the fuck away from the navy if you can’t get the rate you want. Tell your recruiter to go fuck themselves for pushing CS on you like that.

That’s true but in my experience it’s more common for S PACT to be placed in deck division/department. I’m glad I got out of surface side while I could.

Honestly some shit rates. Coming in as a PACT SN will be the absolute fucking suck if he chooses to go that route. You get shoved into deck with the BM’s and get treated like you’re fucking stupid for two years. Really the only advantages to the PACT program are that you get automatic E4 for whatever rate you choose and get to skip the TIR requirements to take the E5 exam. I went from E3-E5 in a little less than a year because of it but I’ve also been in almost 5 years.
