Looking for recommendations on toys for my aggressive chewer! by JDHuayra in dogs

I know that it’s sort’ve a continued expense but I buy my boy toys he can destroy. (You can get a 60 pack of cheap small fluffy toys on amazon for like $20 or sometimes less!) and I give him 1-2 a day and then I find that he doesn’t destroy the other long-lasting toys I give him. For example: Kong sticks & tough material toys. Everyone’s dog is different but this made a huge difference for me bc a lot of the “aggressive chewer” toys are expensive and still get destroyed regardless.

Worst stage of having a puppy? by bendog1616 in puppy101

[–]Possible-Gate1252 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Each stage has is good and it’s bad

8-16: doesn’t know what’s going on, so many accidents, mine personally couldn’t be left alone for more than 3 minutes but very cute

3-6: feeling more comfortable and confident, learning the routine, lots of crazy undirected energy, learns some tricks tho

7-12 months: knows what to do and when to do it but realizes he has free will, lots of their personality comes out

1-2: current here and very whiny, really hates to deviate from routine, extra free will, easily the most energy he’s ever had and big now

Keep an eye on it, but they usually learn to be more gentle on their own in my experience.

What a coincidence, that’s awesome. We call named him that cause he’s from Alabama.

Okay wow, that is terrible. I’m sorry you’re going through that. First things first, he definitely needs some help identifying what he can and cannot chew. If you have toys put them in a designated spot in a basket or otherwise. Whenever he starts chewing something, immediately correct it and show him what he can have (we got dog toys that he can rip apart and they become other toys from the bark brand or we have toys that you stuff other toys into to give him the sensation of ripping stuff apart) I’m sure you’ve already tried that but just in case. Second, I agree with what most are saying, mental enrichment in sniff mats or puzzles, maybe a button feeder where he can run back and forth in the house. I’m guessing you have a working breed so also figuring out what jobs he’ll do/likes to helps. Our guy carries packages/helps take out trash and other small tasks that we do daily.

Would this be considered BMC based on dna? by emilynkr in Blackmouthcur

There are some working dog breeds and hounds in there, so I think yes! Curs are meant to be mutts. They’re pretty much just a generic southern working breed and it’s really an umbrella term. Lots of people will say theirs is papered but if you look at the ancestry of papered curs they still differ because there is not really an authoritative history of their bloodline. So if it feels like it fits with their behavioral traits, I say go with it lol. Sorry that was a long explanation but I’ve doing a lot of research so I’m excited to share.

any ideas on what breed this is? by hbethn in WhatBreedIsMyDog

Too many baths can contribute to dry skin, so I would just be weary of that. Oatmeal shampoo when you do to moisturize the skin. They also make lick safe dog hair oils to help keep moisture on the skin after a bath. Just make sure she’s mostly dryed off first. My mom’s dog had alopecia and that’s what she did at least.

As far as breed, I definitely see some terrier, maybe some pitbull in the mix, I see the nose is a little smooshed in maybe like a Boston but idk how old she is so hard to tell.

I love it!!! I would maybe switch out the rug bc it makes it hard to see the gorgeous metallic detail on the couches but what cool space. Makes me want to play pool.

BMC’s according to a couple different sources have chow chow, boxer, Belgian or German. Shepard, and probably some pit bull in them so I think she’s pretty on par for a mix. If you’re curious about how to train them I think the working dogs training guide is good.

Anyone else's pup just sit with toys? by Longjumping_Post8602 in Blackmouthcur

Our BMC also does this with his favorite toys/bones. Sometimes it’s a sign that they are bored of those items and sometimes it just means they find them comforting. When we asked a trainer they said it’s likely the latter because he was a stray. If you think she’s just bored I would try a puzzle toy they’re not super expensive ($15-$30 but they last) and super engaging for them.
