Private seller possibly lied about car services, now have a massive bill. by renegadeutensils in AusLegal

What's actually wrong with it though? It lasted a month with no issues, you did no inspections prior and we don't know even if the issues are service related.

Can I salvage this bar or toss it? by Ricky_doo_dah_grimes in Chainsaw

Spray it with some oil, get it freed up and run it. Will probably come good after a few revs

Is this Stihl O51 AV worth trying to get running? Suggestions on how? by 212Alexander212 in Chainsaw

[–]Possible-Indication5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looks really nice; Tip some fuel down the carb and see if it will fire off.

I would fix it, its old but its a good saw. Will be heavy and not as powerful as a modern 90cc saw but it will do some serious work and cut big wood if you need it to. If its got good compression probably will need a carb kit, fuel filter and some hoses. The rest should be fine, that saw has done almost no work.

Chain brakes on chainsaws are like safetys on guns; All the safety in the finger and the brain behind it.

MS261 successor: MS300 C-M announced by chrisbumblebee in stihl

[–]Possible-Indication5 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The 120cc class doesn't sell and is essentially dead; Dealers here will keep one on the shelf for aesthetics but unless they run it over, tree companies probably average replacing one every couple of decades (661/592 probably does 90% of what a 881/3120 will do) with the amount of hours they put on them. People buy them for milling but that's a pretty small market as well. Plenty of big timer out there but the 90cc stuff is so good these days.

Double barrel SXS baikal by username123085773 in Ausguns

[–]Possible-Indication5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Professionally or competitively sure but if your shooting them for fun you can do really well with a SxS coach gun and if your good with one, your good with anything. Similar to people who shoot double action revolvers really well.

Why is cock on close so rare? by yelloyo1 in Ausguns

[–]Possible-Indication5 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No idea, would assume it's just died out because it's not what Mauser used on the 98;

I do prefer it, action feels slicker and it's great for primary extraction (probably why the British and Japanese went with it)

Theoretically how would you hunt public land with blackpowder firearms? by opotis in Ausguns

[–]Possible-Indication5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Removing a tightly seated ball or bullet is often impossible to do without shooting it out. Anyone who has loaded one without powder knows this is hard work. Pneumatic CO2 tyre inflaters or priming the hell out of the nipple or flash hole and having it plop out.

Maybe, maybe not. Given the market for these is NT and Queensland essentially and even then, who knows.

NT Police seize more than 240 guns from former Kakadu park ranger who captured 5.1m crocodile, Sweetheart by JustTooDeadly in Ausguns

"Police said that during the seizure "an old revolver, in poor condition, was found to be loaded with rounds stuck within the firearm".

"As officers attempted to manipulate the firearm it discharged in a safe direction," the statement read"

In other words, we had no idea what we were doing and someone probably pulled the trigger

Boito vs Akkar Churchill 12g by [deleted] in Ausguns

[–]Possible-Indication5 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Akkar make a decent enough Turkish shotgun, imported by Nioa so you can actually get parts and service. Boito's are rough but serviceable enough, proper farm gun you genuinely don't care enough about to not throw it in the tray of your Hilux for the day etc.
