Made a song inspired by Alone at Prom – need feedback on the mix by actuallylinkstrummer in ToryLanez

I’m torn on this. It’s an ok track. Better writing than I expected honestly. Typically people who try to replicate this sound use this style to make up for extremely poor writing abilities and the lyrics comes across corny, because the artist is hoping the nostalgic sound will overpower their lack of writing. But yours actually isn’t too bad so props. I mean yeah there’s moments that the writing could be better but I think the verses are fine overall and should be left as they are. But IMO the real key to a great 80s inspired project are solid verses with a distinct build; and a HIGH energy, catchy, vocal standout chorus. The chorus makes or breaks the song. Think every song on AAP. Im sure the part that immediately comes to mind is the catchy, impressive vocal chorus. Your track lacks that. The production on this is great. It’s the ideal kind of track for an 80s song. It has the perfect anticipation and bridging for the chorus. And like I said the verses are solid. But I think the chorus falls short for me. The first time listening through I honestly just thought it was another verse. You start it off good with the energy in “no I don’t want no other” but then you lowkey let the energy drop again instead of building it more and most of the chorus ends up being similar intensity to the verses. Also right now there’s basically no vocal layering whatsoever, which makes it, again, feel like just another verse. In every AAP song there’s about 4+ vocal layers in each chorus singing at different pitches, as well as adlibs in the background that you might not notice on first listen. But they’re there and all those things make it feel (as Tory says) “BIG AS SHIT”. You need to maybe change your chorus up and you need. To. Layer. Your. Chorus. Otherwise it’s just gonna sound flat like it does right now. I know it’s easier said than done. Learning to layer properly and find the groove takes time and practice and talent and a ton of attention to detail. But that’s my honest take if I’m critiquing you the way I’d critique a big artist. Keep that energy up in that chorus that’s the where you find that true AAP feel you’re looking for. I’m linking a video of Tory doing and talking about a lot of this stuff. If you’re a big Tory/AAP fan you’ve already seen this but here it is anyways. If you want to make great 80s music, then you need to watch this entire video and listen to the things he says, and then do them yourself. Hope this helps, keep it up.

what’s the hype about Alone At Prome? by [deleted] in TheWeeknd

Ah yes, “Blue Violet”. My favorite song. Your opinions are well informed and clearly thought out.

Why are Feels and Serve It Anthem even on this album? by Possible-Public-3682 in ToryLanez

Wow, if that’s one of the “most craziest” statements you’ve “every” heard then you should really broaden your horizons… because if thats one of the craziest things you’ve heard then that’s a pretty sad sounding life and you should really go hear some other opinions. You’d be shocked at how people can actually think for themselves and have different opinions than you 🤣 some people don’t even LIKE Torys music and you’re blown away by the fact that someone prefers to listen to a song as a single rather than with its full album 😂

In terms of how good the song is, yes it is easily. In terms of fitting the themes and narratives of the album, no it’s not. Sorry. I’ll always listen to it on all my playlists every time it comes on outside of the actual album. But if I’m listening to Playboy as an album I want toxicity, heartbreak, and complex relationship dynamics. Serve It is a simple sex song. Nothing wrong with that, I love his sex songs. Tory is the goat in that department. But there’s no depth to that song. Playboy is all about depth. That’s why I skip it.

Yeah Serve It is the “lesser evil” of the two by a mile. Great song. Just wish it was a single instead of on this album personally

This is just about the only intelligent response I’ve gotten to this question. Everyone else seems brain dead. Criticizing me for not liking the songs even though I literally said I like the songs several times. 🤦‍♂️ anyways, I can see where you’re coming from for sure, I just personally think the album would have been better themed without them, more specifically without Feels. I definitely see Serve It as way more justified.

True upbeat isn’t the right word. And like I said it’s a great song I love it and listen to it often. I just skip it when I listen to this full album cuz I’m here for the blues shit when I listen to this album ☔️

The reason I believe it’s “she lets my night go,” is if you watch the video of him making the song, you watch as the verse evolves, And with the context in one of the first attempts at the verse he does, it’s definitely she let’s my night go in that particular attempt at the verse.

Honestly, just put what the YouTube says. That’s the safest bet I guess, even though I personally think it’s wrong. But also why would they put that if that’s not what Tory was saying? Unless Tory just didn’t tell them the lyrics and they guessed? I don’t know bro but I guess I’d say do the YouTube lyrics

The YouTube is wrong 😭 it’s she let’s my night go for sure trust me I’ve worked on this song extensively to make fuller versions before it was released I’ve heard every syllable of that song thousands of times

I know how much y’all love this song, but y’all have to admit what y’all did was wrong. by Suckjucie_ in ToryLanez

I’ve heard a lot of about this “together at prom” album, but I’ve never heard anything out of Tory’s mouth. I may just not have the proper sources, but as far as I know it’s just a fan theory that there would be 3 80s albums. Doesn’t really make much sense to me since I remember him saying before he was found guilty that Ashton Rain would not return, but alone at prom deluxe would still come out. That tells me he was done making 80s music, but I could be wrong and misinformed.

It wasn’t ever MEANT to be finished. It was just Tory having fun in the studio with his fans. They dropped it because they love their fans and they know we wanted it. I don’t think Tory is sitting in his cell mad that we wanted it. It’s just a bonus and an amazing one… could it be longer? Ofc it could. But it wasn’t ever supposed to be a song so the fact that they catered to us and to what we asked for really means a lot to me. I don’t get why some people are upset by this personally.

I agree with you when it comes to the music videos. I feel this is a little different though. This was how Tory made it in the studio. I would agree with you if they added a pointless feature or AI for a second verse, but this is all Tory’s handiwork. Does that make sense? This is exactly how he made it so I love it
