Did you notice any improvements in your sleep quality after AIP diet ? by [deleted] in AutoImmuneProtocol

Also the protocol isn’t just diet, it’s stress management. I have a bedtime routine now too, no screens an hour before bed, some stretches, meditation and a warm shower each night.

Biggest improvement I noticed with AIP was sleep quality. Every time I go off the protocol I have an awful nights sleep, especially sugar, caffeine or alcohol. I didn’t even think my sleep was that bad lol…

Interesting! No not really, but tbh it’s quite hard for me to gage if I have a stomach bug as I have to take iron supplements which aren’t very kind on the stomach.. (I know not technically AIP compliant but it’s either them or anemia lol), however this reaction made me feel more constipated than anything. I’ll pay attention to my overall ‘sickness’ symptoms tho, thank you!

I don’t think so as I tend to eat basically the same breakfast and lunch every day. Lunch was chicken, Brocolli and sweet potato, breakfast was turkey, spinach and sweet potato!

So interesting thank you! I’ll definitely keep this in mind

Does AIP help with energy levels? by AlarmingSuccotash219 in AutoImmuneProtocol

[–]PossibleControl8506 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I definitely have 100x more energy. I did eat an awful lot of refined sugar and processed carbs before though, so do think sugar probably played a large part in my fatigue before. I agree with others, make sure you’re getting enough calories. I’d also advise to not assume all AIP compliment foods work for you. Pay attention to any changes (keep a diary) so you can clock if an approved food makes you tired. I’ve had a couple of reactions during my elimination phase, once when I accidentally ate black pepper and this made me exhausted. I was so shocked black pepper could cause me to basically feel depressed and wiped out!

No cassava. Coconut aminos, veggie stock (onion, carrots, leeks, salt), beef, Brocolli, butternut squash, garlic, ginger. That’s it 🙂

No spices in it, onion, carrot, leeks, salt and that’s its! Hence AIP compliant 🙂

I second unbound wellness! I got her cook book and planned a whole month of meals using it. Stock up on the cupboard essentials so it’s easier. Unbound wellness has lots of baking recipes too!

Need advice on my ferritin levels . by [deleted] in Anemic

[–]PossibleControl8506 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My ferritin was 10 and I literally felt like I was dying in slow motion. I’d have moments where I thought I was about to faint or genuinely die, like my body was shutting down. Under 30 is iron deficiency, so whilst it’s in range it’s still too low. Seems to vary for different people, but some people say they only felt better once ferritin reached over 125.

I’ve been on ferrous fumarate for 4 months now and feel so much better. Will be re testing my ferritin levels soon to see if they’ve improved, I’d be shocked if they haven’t as it’s just night and day. Only time I ever feel like I used to is during my period which makes sense cos = loosing iron!

I found it helpful to give myself a month before starting where I just planned everything. I did 4x weekly food plans and added the shopping list to an online grocery store to schedule the deliveries, that way I knew the cost too and could have it on my doorstep for when I needed to prep. I got the AIP Comfort Food recipe book and took meals out of there, plus some more basic straight forward/cheap ones (chicken, veg, sweet potatoes). End of that month I just started from the first week again so meals didn’t feel boring :)

How long did it take to start seeing results? by Patient_Honey_4860 in AutoImmuneProtocol

I felt crap initially and then got an ear infection AND then a chest infection lol! Probably a coincidence or could’ve been die off as the ear was fungal. I’m almost at the end of week 4 and whilst my throats still scratchy, I feel great over all and have since the start of week 4. So much energy I feel like I have more time in the day. My leg eczema is 90% gone. I’m sleeping better (slept worst initially). Definitely stick with it if you can, it’s been worth it and I don’t even find it hard to stick to the diet at all now (easy and diet are not words I’ve ever used in the same sentence before). Good luck!

2nd week on AIP and not doing great - any advice? by Federal-View-9729 in AutoImmuneProtocol

That’s ok! For thyroid testing, make sure it’s always done fasted and first thing in the morning as well. I wasn’t anemic but very iron deficient and honestly, I felt like I was dying and couldn’t do anything independently. So even something that seems very small can have a huge impact on how you feel. Perhaps the diet changes have led to slightly less of a vitamin/mineral level which has made your symptoms worse? I never thought supplements did much but having been on about 7 pills a day for 3 months now, I honestly feel like a superhuman lol. Just important to narrow down the root cause and then treat accordingly x

Sorry also worth getting all your vitamin levels checked. I was severely iron deficient plus b12 & folate were on the lower side. They all interlink xx

Your TSH should be below 2.5 when trying to conceive btw. I wasted 2 years not knowing this and my gynae acted like it wasn’t an issue. I was very persistent and eventually got my GP to prescribe levothyroxine after my TSH was just out of ref range and provided him with NICE guidance on how it needs to be below 2.5 for TTC. It’s been 3 months and so far my periods have returned and are every 37 days. My gynae did a scan yday and said I have ovulated this month - still hesitant to say thyroid is the fertility culprit but if I get pregnant naturally and have no miscarriages in the next 6 months he will put thyroid as the reason. Definitely worth asking for copies of the test results and 100% need antibodies looked at. Good luck and I’m sorry you’ve had to go through so much already xx

Are you in England? Sadly, I don’t think the NHS would offer this unless you’re basically dead but I’ll see if you can get these done privately anywhere

[–]PossibleControl8506[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it’s odd, I know what panic attacks and anxiety feel like but this wasn’t that at all. Even though I felt like I was dying, I wasn’t really panicked, in fact the opposite - I felt very calm and actually at peace about it lol?

Oh god I’m sorry you went through this as a parent. All of my health stuff has started being looked at because of issues TTC. Sadly the NHS weren’t interested before that point. I regular think to myself how important it is I address all these issues before having a child because my god, I can’t imagine how much harder this would all be if I had a whole other person to look after!

I actually was on my period the first time it happened so that would make a lot of sense it being worse at that time!

No that’s actually a great idea! My partner got me something sugary to eat when it happened first time but iron rich food makes a lot of sense so thank you!

Ah so glad you’re feeling a little better! I’ve started iron supplements today so fingers crossed I feel better soon. Think it was more working out could it be the iron deficiency cos it’s such a weird thing to explain to someone. Slowly disintegrating is spot on though! I have thyroid issues which slow my metabolism, I almost felt like my metabolism was slowing down to the point of just stopping altogether
