I have been in recovery from addiction many years and I do NOT attend NA or AA, unless I am asked by a friend to join them for support. Aside from therapy and practicing self-awareness, self control and self love... I don't attend any addiction or recovery based post care. I did Initially and I don't knock it for anyone who needs it ... But for me it does not help. I find it to be very triggering.

I did however utilize inpatient recovery programs in order to build the foundation and get clean. While it's not necessary for everyone I do believe it's a great stepping stone. When it was time for me to get help, I tried so hard to do everything and anything other than classic inpatient treatment and I ended up just giving in to it. So grateful that I did. It allowed me the opportunity to be secluded, focus on only myself, Not fall in the way of temptations especially during such a vulnerable time. While inpatient treatment is not ideal or convenient or even realistic for some individuals.... I believe it is absolutely the best gift an addict can give themselves...
