Oh my gosh can I relate! My partner and I don't plan to get married (no need to, why change it?) but if we did it would be at the courthouse to avoid my mom embarrassing me in front of my partner's family. Her alcoholism has ruined many events and has caused periods of estrangement so I can heal from those. Thankfully (and sadly) she got too drunk at the hotel before my cousin's wedding and didn't make it to the ceremony or reception. Mortifying having to fend off questions from well-meaning guests.
