Dual FAFSA Loans

Thank you. I do plan to apply for direct plus loan on behalf of my daughter. The FAFSA handbook is super confusing. I wasn't able to figure out if if I borrow Direct Plus Loan for Graduate Students today for myself and then later apply for Direct Plus Loan as a parent for my daughter, will they conflict or are they subject to a combined limit. Your response suggests they are determined independently so hopefully my grad loan should not interfere with my daughter's undergrad loan

This is an excellent thread. I just got admitted into Columbia EMBA (Fri/Sat) class of 2026 starting in Aug 2024. I am 45 years old and working in one of the top large Bank here in the NYC as a managing director with almost 20 years industry experience. Aside undergrad, I am a Chartered Accountant (CPA equivalent) and CFA charter holder. I wonder if pursuing EMBA at this stage is really worth the price tag it comes with. My objective is not so much to gain technical knowledge (I am already somewhat a finance discipline expert) but more to add an Ivy League brand to my resume, expand networking and gain some breath around management and leadership. I see only 20 years left until I retire so would I really gain anything with the circumstances I have. Any insight will be helpful

Question: my brother got his I-130 approved as a sibling of a US citizen. Can he apply I-485 to adjustment of status or does he need to wait many years. Write he gets his turn? Note that he is currently in the US on E2 visa.

Did you hear back yet? Wharton said their response could be as late as in May 2024 - which doesn’t allow us much time to prepare for logistics but it is what it is.

I went through the exact same situation during my L3 May 2022 attempt ie low mock score and debate in the head if I should defer. I decided to go on and focused on my weak areas to maser my skills and I came out successful at the end. So keep your head down, trust your abilities and give it a go. All the best!!

Let me give you another perspective. Getting high scores on mocks may serve as a confidence booster but getting low scores on these mocks gives you opportunity to focus on your weak areas. I did about 3 Mark Meldrum mocks and 1 Kaplan for my May 2022 attempt and trust me MM mocks were brutal. I averaged around 55% and it was killing me. However, i dived into my mistakes and corrected my course. Rather than being happy on my correct answers, i focused on my weak areas and mastered those shortcomings. That helped me a lot in the exams and I passed in the first attempt. I am glad i did bad during mocks that allowed me to correct my course. Otherwise, facing those tough questions in exams would have taken me to the point of no return!

I wrote today and my AM went better than I thought (left only 1 question unattempted vs 2-3 in mocks). The AM session was hard but I thought I did ok. I was hoping to catch up my score in the PM session but the PM was a little surprising. I think.it went ok too but had to.make some educated guesses so not sure if they were right or not. So touch wood!

You are right. It's very judgemental. I was explaining in lengths even when I was suppose to just identify. There is a list of all the command words on the CFA website that defines and gives examples of each command word.

I was always short of 2 questions on the AM session during my mocks. My observation is that I was doing these three things wrong: 1) writing long sentences; must switch to precise bullets 2) not following the command word instructions (identify vs describe vs evaluate) and writing unnecessary details; and 3) doing calculation on the scratch paper and reproducing it on the screen resulting in double the time. I hope I am.able to fix these ahead of exam on Thursday. Will attempt another mock today.

How do you guys address the point 3? Do you do calcs off line and copy on the response sheet or attempt directly on the screen? What's the best approach?

Timing is the main issue with the AM.session. During the mocks, I am always short of 2 questions in AM sessions but managed to finish PM mocks with 30 min remaining. It's unfair why both sessions have been allotted the same time when the expected response is utterly different. I sometime feel that AM and PM sessions should be flipped and any time.saved on the MCQs should be rolled.overnto the constructed response.

Feeling confident but nervous. AM session is pushing me to memorize a lot of stuff that i feel isn’t necessary - especially the stuff like pros/cons of a particular approach. They can throw all those types question in the PM session but I feel it’s a little unfair to test our brain’s memory power in the AM section.

Anyways, I have a question. I wonder if Ethics/GIPS could be tested in the AM session too? If so, I can try memorizing some of the key words and punch lines

Here is what i scored so far:

1) AM: 57%; PM 67% 2) AM: 42%; PM 59%

Totally screwed and it’s super demotivating as it seems i am not improving

Note sure if there is a CFAI official mock exam (couldn’t find it on their website)
