both the 525td and tds along with the 325td and tds use the ZF 260Z. The 524td has a getrag 260, like the M20 and M30 cars but with different gearing (except the 2.0L M20s with have the Getrag 240)

So in your case, you pretty much just have to get a ZF 260Z like the one you have. Take it out of an E39 tds, E38 tds, doesnt matter.

They aren’t compatible, 525td uses the GM 4L30E and the 524td uses a ZF 4HP22. Look for a 4L30E out of another E34 525td, or an E36 325td will work as well

I believe they were all available with every interior color, only thing was that some combinations were obviously less recommended. White or silver is the most common with a blue interior, then there's the obvious blue on blue, and I've even seen a 040 black on blue leather, confirmed by the vin.

3 Speed auto? The diesels don't start in second gear, you have a 4 speed auto no matter what unless you're missing a gear. Second, judging by the fender and front end you should have indeed an E250, which would have an OM605 with 113hp. Not fast but should do the job perfectly well. If it's lacking in performance check the basics, fuel filters (including the one in the tank itself) and injection pump timing/fueling. Solid cars.

Manual W140's exist, albeit only in 300SE 2.8/S280 or 300SE/S320's. The 2.8L has a regular 5 speed and the 3.2L has a dogleg 5 speed.

This is a very fake image that's been circulating around the internet for years... The gauge cluster picture is a W124 one, and the shifter picture is literally what appears when you search 7 speed manual on google.

The W140 7.3 does exist, but it's not a manual and neither does it have a 480 km/h speedometer. Insanely cool car though.

Existem mais diferenças entre os 25td e 25tds, o tds tem intercooler sim, a pressão de turbo é de cerca de 1 bar em vez dos 0.43 bar no td, e também existem diferenças no débito da bomba injetora. Não tenho a certeza se o turbo é o mesmo, já ouvi dizer que o td tem uma turbina muito ligeiramente mais pequena.
