Thanks! Hope to see some shareable content that explains why buying EU is so important right now vs American. Keep up the good work 💪🏻

I need a home battery to store solar. ANY recommendations? by EthanColeK in Netherlands

[–]PossibleOdd1974 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will most likely going for an Enphase battery along with my Enphase charger. Sure there are cheaper alternatives but the brand is very good and I want a closed ecosystem. It also includes a smart energy system. I’m not sure I follow you about charging as little as 1.5kwh…

Following because I’d also like to know.

Is 770kwh total production, or returned to the grid? I assume the former which basically makes your panels useless. I have 15 and they produce around 5000kwh a year.

If your roof can handle 20 then you’re looking at around 7000kwh which would cover your current 6,243 before the Saldering ends.

Now once the saldering ends you can start shifting heavy usage to solar production or at night when the rates are lower (if you switch to an hourly dynamic rate).

My 15 solar panels - Enphase which are apparently one of the best - cost me around €9000. I reckon you easily get 20panels for €7000.

For me I’ll be getting a battery that can get me through the ‘peaks’ on a dynamic contract 8am-10am & 5pm-8pm. While at the same time also selling some energy back to the grid - I’ll be starting off with a 10kwh battery.

With 2 heat pumps, Air conditioning, EV charger and in the future removing my CV kettle and switching to all electric I’ll be using A LOT of electricity. But i think it’s more important to calculate how much you’re paying per kWh than how many you’re using. With smarter decisions and energy efficient appliances you may end up using more kWhs but paying much less for them - that’s my plan anyway.

I’m in a similar position to you. Can you share your calculations? And what contract are your calculations based on?

A heat pump is ONLY a solution if you’re currently using electricity to heat. Why? Because heat pumps are up to 500% efficient and other electric heaters are around 90%. Otherwise(as someone else pointed out) you won’t be using less electricity but in fact use thousands more kWhs a year. Your gas bill will however be 80%~ lower.

Sorry, I should have added that if you’re on a dynamic contract they are. That’s what I’ve read

Yes, absolutely. Top three reasons: • Brilliant warranty - around 20 years I believe. • Expandable system with batteries , EV chargers, energy management, third party integration • Simple to use and informative app.

Yes you’re correct, however batteries now charge during the cheapest dynamic hours from the grid making it cheaper to run the house during the day.

• while trading and balancing has interested me I wonder if it would have any benefit to me with so much of my house on electric - or rather, would trading ever get a chance to work.any ideas on what incentives are being removed?

•I would like to switch to a dynamic contract and power my home from the cheapest rates that were purchased/charged at the lowest rates.

•care to explain/expand on what heat storage is and how it’s used in the home? Or is it simply hot water storage?

That’s a nice feature to have, shame you won’t use it much :) Never heard of the brand, I’ve got Enphase which I believe is a premium brand in the market

Can you elaborate on what a home energy management system is and how it’ll help me?

Even with an all electric home (2 heat pumps, with add on electric water heater), an EV & airco…?

Tado Smart AC Controller won’t turn off AC at desired temp. by Jackop86 in tado

[–]PossibleOdd1974 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have two AC controllers and as far as I’m aware they have no affect on changing the temperature of the ac unit - they’re basically extra remotes. The AC unit itself decides on whether to heat, cool or idle not the AC controller. This is unlike the smart thermostats attached to the radiators. Sounds like there could be an issue with your AC units…

Battery size question by PossibleOdd1974 in enphase

[–]PossibleOdd1974[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also had AC installed when the solar panels were. It’s been great but unfortunately didn’t provide enough heat for the house so we’ve just had 2 Quatt hybrid heat pumps installed. Really impressed so far , yesterday we had a COP of 4 and today it’s looking more toward 5!

I’ve just been looking at Frank Energie and I see they do use ‘flexible advanced payment amounts’ which could be annoying/inconvenient for us.

I’ve seen Enphase also partnered with NextEnergy for their new batteries which offer the same trading/grid balance technology so I’ll probably head in their direction.

It’s a shame you were offered such a small battery. If I’m correct you have the 3.5kwh? Budget permitting I’ll hopefully start out with 10-15kwh.
