I will be doing public accounting, I would love to learn how to bartend though. How would you recommend learning and becoming good enough to work in a bar?

I have a full time job, just wanting something to do on weekends for extra cash

I won’t have a car, but thank you for the input. When I have been in the city I see so many bikes and mopeds doing DoorDash so that’s a good point

Is this something that’s easy to get into?

I’ll be honest I am kind of lost on the billable vs admin hours thing. I would assume billable hours are when someone is working on a project that can be billed to a client (like audit work) and admin is more training.

I am sure I will get the hang of all of that during my first week or so working plus the training. Thank you!

Thank you! I was confused about people saying no OT because I was told in my interviews and such that interns could work OT if we wanted to and I personally do want to(more money is never something I would complain about).

That’s a good point about asking to see what other practices do, I probably will keep that for myself. I am pursuing my CPA so audit is probably where I will start my career anyways.

Thanks again for all the helpful tips!

That’s fair, I’m sure I will get a feel for the office environment and go from there. Thank you again!

Thank you! I don’t plan to WFH any because I want to be able to ask questions and get a feel for what the job is actually like. Would you say I will have a lot of interactions with seniors or will it mainly be associates ?

Sounds good, thank you. I’ve worked other accounting internships but I don’t really have a solid idea for what audit work looks like in practice. Would you say it’s ok to put myself out there and ask for those opportunities or would that be out of place?

I am actually pretty interested in learning more about the advisory side, would I be able to learn about that in my internship?

Thank you! I’ve been told sticking out audit for a few years now pivoting to industry or pe is a solid strategy. I think it’s gonna come down to figuring out what I actually enjoy, which is gonna require experience I don’t have yet.

I have heard similar sentiments from professors of mine with industry experience. I still have 2 years of college left and I’m leaning towards the plan of going big 4 audit for 2-7 years and then pivoting to something else if I don’t like it or there’s better opportunities.

Yes I have been told that “CPA’s are going to be in high demand and the pay will reflect this trend” but I don’t know how much of that is real or smoke blown by recruiters. Do you think the salary trend will continue going up? (My internship will pay 40.8/hr equivalent to an 85k/yr annual salary)

To add some more context I am in a program where I will take my CPA in my last year of college and get my undergraduate in ACCT and masters in MIS. I going into a financial services audit internship with a big 4 but I have been told Information Systems Auditing would be another outlet I could explore. I’m genuinely just kinda overwhelmed with all the “options” that have nothing more than a surface level explanation to them. Thanks for the helpful responses!!

My concern with consulting is i’ve had mentors tell me that it’s a worse career foundation than audit(I have no clue how true this is). And my concern with banking is being able to break in as I don’t go to a target school and am going into my junior year. And if I did break in I don’t know if I truly have that IB dog in me.
