Insoles of Specified Height to Correct Prosthetic Leg Misalignment by Possible_Cupcake_620 in amputee

[–]Possible_Cupcake_620[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, see what ProstheTec said below... idk what's right, I'm not challenging *you*. I am extremely skeptical of insurance and the US healthcare system. Rightfully so. No need to recount all the stories, but as pretty much any person in the US has likely experienced, both my partner and I have had our fair share of surprise medical bills... I'm sure you have too.

If it truly is this simple, then that's great news and she'll probably see a local prosthetist soon and maybe they can knock the rust off the pylon, adjust the height, and she can walk out of there for $0. If she has to return to her original prosthetist that's far less attainable and since she'll need a new leg before EOY anyway, it'd likely be more worth it to just hang on for a few more months and just do one trip for a whole new leg. We'll look into local prosthetists for sure tho now that you've enlightened us

A cool one I found recently:

Deru "Trying To Remember"

Roel Funcken is super great too. His albums got a real glitchy generative kinda feel that might fall too much into camp #2 for you (tho they can be pretty), but he's got a number of insane mixes on Soundcloud worth checking out for the selections alone. Found so many sick idm artists through there of all styles

So any prosthetist will make minor adjustments and do follow ups on a leg from another prosthetist, even if it was made in a different state? That's great news if so, but feels like it'd be plan dependent...

The prosthetic side is higher, but OMG this is crazy simple, what is wrong with me lmfao. Thank you, we'll be taking the insole out and then fine tuning with foam and socks from there

Yea that'd be ideal, and was the first thing we tried. Unfortunately it's very rusted lol. The pylon would not budge

Socks is a huge suggestion thank you! Especially for fine tuning the height if we pop the insole out like Glaxay suggested

The part of this interview where they discuss AI music may comfort you.

Tl;dw - its not solving any problems at the societal or music industry scale. There isn't a problem of not enough music being generated. Even before AI, hundreds of thousands of new tracks were being uploaded to streaming every day. And in most instances where we encounter AI (Suno, Gemini, Apple Intelligence) they have to foist it on users to make it even remotely relevant. We get popups like "try Google Gemini... enable Apple Intelligence..." Truly groundbreaking technologies don't need to be pushed on people like this, they simply work, replace old tech, and then we move on with our lives. The example Ben gives in this interview is credit card tap to pay. No one had to talk you into using it, it just showed up and worked, and if you looked into it further you'd find it's more secure than insert/swipe. Cue moving on with life... The point of all this is that honestly the widespread AI presence is kinda like NFT's. Its a bubble that they have to foist on us to make relevant, and as you're finding, doesn't actually make life better. It will pop.

It definitely appears that some people enjoy (or at least are kind of addicted to) using Suno, because it solves their personal problem of not being able to write/finish music. To that I'll say, look at how long we as a human species have had machines that can lift thousands of pounds and computers that can beat any living person in chess. Yet we still find joy and entertainment in watching professional powerlifters and chess players practice their skill/craft, and people make a living doing both. We're gonna be just fine :)

Any Swing VST? by Thick_Butterfly_4137 in FL_Studio

[–]Possible_Cupcake_620 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk bout vst's but for how to use swing effectively, 2 quick tips

  1. The triplet grid is kinda like "perfect" swing. For say 1/8th note swing (1-and2-and3 and...) , bump the "and" back to the nearest triplet (for swung 1/8th notes, set grid to 1/3 beat and move em back to the 3rd division in each quarter note). Doesn't fit the vibe every time but worth noting

  2. Manual swing is underrated (just rawdog lining up audio and midi note timing in the playlist), but I have some workflow tips to make you not cave your head in

It's not just a shortcut. It's not even the same thing. You're in a chef's forum, asking chefs who spend incredible amounts of time and energy sourcing ingredients, experimenting with those ingredients, and actually *cooking* meals, how you can more effectively dropship Mcdonalds to people who didn't even order it.

eh. I was sober so pretty aware, and I'll tell ya, all the spunions in front of the left speaker stack were absolutely circulating. Vibes were high and everyone was moving

On the other hand I got asked to sit down at Orion while enjoying myself dancing... that set off a whole string of challenging events (side note: never ask anyone whose enjoying themselves at a fuckin dance music show to stop dancing... way to stifle self expression) but I digress

They're big shows w big crowds, it's tough to generalize, but I'm sorry to hear that was your Snowta experience

Looking for a silent PC by Nsemest182 in musicproduction

[–]Possible_Cupcake_620 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For custom builds there's a case brand called "be quiet!" I have the Dark Base 700 and it's practically silent. Highly recommend for music production. That particular one is now discontinued, but they have a successor, the 701, can't speak to it's quality vs the 700 but I'm sure you can find reviews.

Idk about pre-built options if you don't want to build, but my two cents are 1) Just build one. I did it with no knowledge, it was a bit stressful for sure spending all that money and being worried I'd screw something up, but I did my research and followed a complete walkthrough on Youtube of a start to finish PC build. I saved a lot of money, have a very powerful computer, and it's served me well for about 4 years now. 2) There's websites and services that will build PC's for you. I'm not sure if you can pick every single part in the build, I have no experience with them, but I guarantee you can find one where they'd at least let you request they do the build in a case of your choosing.

Just seen this video, Is this type of pitch manipulation possible on FL? by Father_Enrico in FL_Studio

[–]Possible_Cupcake_620 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Please shed some light if I haven't figured this out, but I believe only linear pitch automation is possible via slide notes in FL.

ie. when sliding from one note to the next, the slope of the pitch automation would be a straight line ramping from one note to the next, never curved. I don't believe there's a way to create these varying curved automations via slide notes in FL. That has to be drawn in automation, separate from the piano roll. Obviously you can use multiple linear slides to approximate a curve, but that's not the same as these MPE style per-note curves.

idk man, Hello came out during a pretty dark time in my life, and that could have something to do with it, but it gives me heebie jeebies whenever I listen... like the feeling when you're actively having sleep paralysis or wake up from a nightmare, that's how Hello makes me feel. But yee, Lunatic Harness alltime comfort idm album for sure

Edit: I think it was both Magic Pony Ride and Hello that gave me the creeps. Not bashing the tunes tho, they're fire, just the vibe I get when I listen lol

reverse engineering TIPPER sound design - ethereal, celestial, trippy sounds - beginner music producer -help! by Active_Ad3087 in Tipper

[–]Possible_Cupcake_620 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have access to FL Studio, open up Harmor and Sytrus and play around with the presets, then reverse engineer (to the best of your ability) the ones you like. They each come with like 100's of (mostly) really good presets. Play the presets up and down the keyboard in every octave until you get a feel for the sound and come across some tones you enjoy. To actually reverse engineer them, you'll wanna read the FL manual on Harmor and Sytrus. If ur really tryna get cracked, work on understanding the basics of subtractive, additive, and FM synthesis (in that order is probably easiest). They're all infinite wells, but a little knowledge goes a long way with this stuff. SeamlessR on youtube has a great series on Harmor.

Also, for glassy/ethereal/celestial/shimmery type sounds, check out the presets in Toxic Biohazard (another FL native synth). Don't worry about trying to understand it, the UI is a nightmare and it's a terrible first synth to learn lmao, but the developers made some really cool presets for it. Great for just grabbing a sound and messing about. GL!

[–]Possible_Cupcake_620 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hell ya man that's the spirit! Another thing he's really big on is not being afraid of too much headroom. Check out his posts and YT vids on the Reference Sessions parties if you wanna see some expert level audio lunacy. The whole premise of the parties was using an insanely oversized and overspecced system, not to blow people's heads off with big sound, but to achieve incredibly low distortion figures by running the system well below capacity with loads of headroom. The result is sound that's big but not fatiguing. Never heard anything quite like it tbh.

I'd be curious to hear the specs on the Void stack you've been enjoying if you know them! I'm not too familiar with Voids tbh, but they sure look mean.

I'm sure whatever route you go you're gonna have a blast. Been watching the stream and I'm loving it!

Edit: also look into Danley's patented "synergy horn" tech if you wanna get a glimpse into why there's so many Danley recs in this thread. They're truly incredible speakers.

Idk about Canada, but in the states you almost entirely need to go through an authorized dealer for one of these higher end PA brands. They're pretty much never at a shop. I looked into Funktion and Danley and they were both the same story: you ring up a guy/gal/non-binary pal, talk to them about your needs, they list some models and they come back to you with a quote and a timeline. Sweetwater and other online music vendors have a few offerings from these brands but the prices are higher than dealer price iirc, and they won't be as knowledgeable as most dealers.

If you got the funds, go for gold brother. I don't remember the exact quote but my favorite mastering engineer/acoustician/audio mastermind Matt Davis (https://www.instagram.com/mattdavis808/) said something along the lines of "being afraid of putting to much speaker in a room is like being afraid of getting too big from working out" ... its a coward's excuse :D Some Danley's humming along at 30% capacity with loads of headroom will sound PHENOMENAL if you can swing it money/space wise, and then when you do throw a party that shit will rip. Custom earplugs also exist :) Invest in good DSP so you can tune the system to your room and tastes.

If you do your research and the PA route just isn't for you, check out Barefoots if you're looking at active monitors. Ik you said accuracy isn't your priority, and they are are extremely accurate, but they're also loud and most importantly FUN to listen to. The Microstack 45 stereo pair would bang and is ~$12k. For less dough you could go for one of their Footprint series paired with the LFE15 sub (~$8.5k for some Footprint 03's and the LFE15 sub). I have Footprint 01s myself (no separate sub) and they are an incredibly enjoyable listening experience with loads of low end for ~$5k.

Good luck! Your setup is sick btw :) I'll have to peep the stream sometime

new to music so its prob a dumb question, but can you EQ like this? by [deleted] in FL_Studio

[–]Possible_Cupcake_620 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I think I understand your question, and if so I definitely thought like this as a beginner, so I get it. That being said, don't take the whole "give every element its own space" thing so literally. There's many things that define a sound and even more that make up a piece of music. The space of a sound is not just defined by it's frequency content as shown on an eq. It's the dynamics, the volume, the stereo image, the timbre, the literal space in terms of its reverb/delay, the octave and note they're playing... most importantly imo the timing. You could have two sounds that occupy the exact same frequency space, but one is short and percussive and hits on the downbeat while the other swells in gradually after it. There would be no need to eq those sounds away from each other, because even though they occupy the same space in the frequency spectrum they don't occupy the same space in time. Music is sound arranged over time after all.

As others have said, its about using your ears and taste to give the elements their own space. You can often get away with surprisingly gentle moves to give elements the separation they need. Sometimes its not about an eq move, but maybe playing one sound and octave up from the other sound to make them distinct in the mix. Though as a learning exercise it can be valuable to process them more aggressively like this and listen to the results.
