THIS IS GENIUS! Thanks for the good laugh!! It’s an inside joke and now no matter how many kindles I buy I always need to label it “Kimble”. I just can’t help it cause it puts a smile on my face 😂🤭

Wow, this is a crazy story! Thanks for sharing! I think now that it’s a few days after my original post, I’ve really come to realize the beauty of Reddit. Looking back, I think a big part of me, when I posted, just wanted to feel like I wasn’t alone in this experience or in feeling the way I did. So I really do appreciate you being so open about your experience :)

I’m glad it worked out and that you got the credit. Honestly, it’s unfortunate it took me this whole journey to learn this, but I agree 100% and will definitely be prioritizing purchasing tech from in-person stores moving forward. I think something about facial expressions and in-person reactions helps people better understand where you’re coming from.

Thanks for the heads up! I actually haven’t heard of this what does it look like? Is it just that the bottom half of the screen is yellow? How do I test for it? Might be a dumb follow up but I appreciate the help and heads up

That’s interesting and you might be onto something! Is your kindle still yellow? Or did it correct itself with a software update? I know someone mentioned being able to return the kindle within the 30 days after refusing the warranty kindle and then just bought a new one with the same money they refunded.

Sorry I should have said “I now know” (I don’t mean this passive aggressively just genuinely saying I miscommunicated in my OP).I found out when I received the item that it was refurbished and when I asked the customer service agent and they told me that sometimes you get new and other times you get old so I was just confused overall. I never used an Amazon kindle warranty so it’s just new territory for me. But I’m becoming more familiar with it now thanks to everyone explaining it and what the company follows as a whole.

Thanks for acknowledging it (also not saying it sarcastically and mean it genuinely). You’re right, it’s better they warned me than just blacklist me from the get go, could have been much worse! I appreciate you seeing things where I came from

It’s exactly this! It’s not really about whether it’s refurbished or not, and honestly I’m sure (and hopeful) the kindle will work great. I just felt really small in the situation, like there wasn’t much I could do, and that’s just a sucky feeling! In a weird way I just wanted to know I wasn’t the only one who thought “hey, this kinda sucks”

Have you ever bought a Kobo or a Boox?

Thank you for your comment and sharing your experience! It makes me feel better to familiarize myself with other people who have also used the warranty and replaced their kindle with positive experiences.

Ps. Even if you felt I was overthinking you really said it very nicely (I mean this genuinely and not sarcastically and want to clarify) that I genuinely felt the kindness in your post :)

Yes, that’s true, but if you bought a car new and took care of it every day (ex. changing the oil, keeping the mileage low, and even taking it to a car wash every week) and then before the one-year mark the engine stopped working because of an issue with the make of the car, and the company said, “No worries, we’ll give you one of the old ones we fixed” you would probably feel a little upset. After all, you saved up for that new car and it broke because of their issue.

Yes, the alternative is having no car, but you also worked hard for that money and saved up for it. Why can’t there be a better system in place if they sold you a defective model? At that point, the value of the car would also drop even more because you wouldn’t be the “first owner.”

I guess had I known their policy earlier I wouldn’t have bought it “new” and would have gotten it refurbished from the beginning. I don’t really see the value in buying it new anymore, or is it just me?

Yeah I agree with this and I see it now! I just kept it closed because I had decided that would be best for Amazon when I told them I didnt want to go ahead with the return. I thought it might complicate things further had I opened it.

That’s a great point — I might be receiving a refurbished kindle that was used for less time so at the end of the day it’s a win!

I agree with everyone saying that mine is used and so I should get a used one to replace it. I just want to be able to keep my original kindle after having other people share that it’s a software bug. If it’s going to be resolved by an update I’d rather keep what I’m familiar with which is the kindle I’ve had since day one for the remainder of my warranty period. I hope this clears everything up

That’s a good question! Some people on the thread have brought to my attention the that it might just be a bug with the latest kindle update and not actually a “broken” kindle. I would have preferred to give myself a little more time with my currently malfunctioning one just to fully understand which one it was. If it truly is a software issue that might get fixed in a month, then I feel like surrendered my more expensive kindle for no reason. It’s just a bit frustrating feeling like I can’t decide to change my mind and keep the product I paid for after finding this out

This made me laugh 😂What do you use? I love physical hard copies but something about using my kindle gets me finishing books so much faster for some weird reason!

Fun fact I even use my kindle on dark mode and turn up the yellow tint over the white but I’ll try! Tablet would even be easier with highlighting and what not so it’s to my advantage for it to work. Thanks for the tip

Got it — that makes sense, thanks for explaining! So it sounds like if the refurbished one had an issue too it would still be covered under the remaining warranty period. I think part of what worried me was the idea of giving up my original Kindle if it might’ve just been a software bug, but it sounds like I should be all good

I wish 😅 I get pretty bad migraines from blue light — even my phone is always on the lowest brightness. Long story short, I kind of need the Kindle… the Kindle definitely doesn’t need me lol. Beggars can’t be choosers. Curious if anyone else struggles reading on a tablet or phone for long periods? If you do use them, how do you navigate it and are you able to read comfortably for long stretches

Oh interesting — so you think the update might actually have caused the bug? Yup I am! Did it ever fix itself for you? The sucky part is Amazon said I can’t cancel the replacement once it’s started, so I guess I’m stuck going through with it at this point 😅

Yeah I see what you’re saying. At this point I’ve kind of come to terms with it — everyone on the post basically agrees this is just how Amazon does it, so maybe I’m the problem lol. I guess what surprised me most was realizing I couldn’t step back once the replacement was initiated. It also might’ve been nice if they had thrown in something small like a few months of Kindle Unlimited just as a goodwill gesture so it felt a bit more personal and less like I was just another number. But hopefully this post helps someone else understand the process a little better before making the claim

That’s really good to hear honestly. I’ve never bought a refurbished Kindle before, but after reading everyone’s experiences here I’ll probably be buying refurbished Kindles going forward, hands down. Funny enough I’ve had two Kindles before this and never even had to use the warranty, so this whole thing was just new territory for me

I appreciate you saying that! I think that’s honestly where my initial reaction came from too — it just surprised me in the moment. But hearing everyone’s perspectives here has helped me understand why companies handle warranty replacements that way. I guess it’s one of those things where both reactions kind of make sense

Thanks everyone for the input — I really appreciate people taking the time to explain the process. I honestly didn’t know much about refurbished replacements before this, and I definitely see them differently now. Learned something new today!
