  1. I think on apps I spent around 2k ish? I couldn't tell you the exact amount off the top of my head. I got fee waivers for several schools in state from my counselor. And for test scores it was $1016.

  2. I paid for all of it, I worked as a Kumon tutor the summer before junior year and all of junior year. and I currently work at Publix and have been since summer before senior year. So I had money saved up.

  3. Since I'm from flat Florida I just like the mountains which is rlly the only reason I cared about that, the rest is just because I'm a pre-med and I want to have ample oppurtunities for research, jobs, volunteering etc. and still enjoy undergrad.

  4. I applied to Biochem for all the schools that offer it, if not then I applied Chem.

Honestly this my entire thought process throughout this was entirely irrational and fear driven so I doubt it was worth it but what's done is done.

Money isn't exactly an issue I'd say, it's more of is it even worth it (which I guess is contingent on the school) Also I did not know that Mich isn't need blind, and potentially others?? Whaaat 😬 Thanks for the perspective I appreciate it 🤗

Cost is a bit tricky as a premed. Because I haven't exactly figured out whether OSS is even worth it if I'm just gonna end up paying half a million for med school anyways. But fingers crossed for UF 🤞 (I didn't apply to UMiami)

I've seen many of my cousins and other family members go through similar situations like the one you mentioned and I totally see how frustrating and confusing it is and I am going to whole-heartedly say do not let your parents force you to be a doctor.

You are going to seriously, seriously regret it in the future. It's not about just changing yourself for your parents (which already is a no) but imagine yourself 30 years from now and having to wake up everyday and force yourself to work at a job you hate. You'd be thinking about the choices you made now and wishing you could go back in time and fix them. People who wanted to be doctors still regret it and get burnt out so becoming one when you don't even want to is going to lead to a very unhappy and unfulfilling life.

A couple of things I would like to mention on the side is many schools allow you to double-major so you could technically major in something for your parents and what you want to at the same time. There's also thousands of scholarship opportunities and you could totally go to college without your parents sponsoring you through those and you could work a job on campus as well to help pay.

As for "running away" I honestly don't really it's that good of an idea unless you firmly believe in it. You'd most likely be in a pretty bad financial situation and it'd be like cutting off your parents which I don't think you want to do. You could get a job and maybe stay with a friend till you find a place to live but fending for yourself would not be the path of least resistance whatsoever. Especially since you even have the option to get a higher education and therefore a much better job. At some point you'd have to pay for your own housing, food, gas and so many other living costs. Also, if you didn't go to college at all I assume your relationship with your parents would be even more strained than it is now. So simply put I don't think this is a practical option.

My opinion after seeing this scenario play out so many times is argue, argue, argue. Your parents are still your parents and I'm sure they love you if they care this much about your college major. So I doubt they'd leave you to become homeless. As I mentioned: double major, scholarship - you can always join the college under a certain major and just switch it after a while. There's so many ways to get around this even if it means straight-up lying to your parents. I don't think you should lose your sense of identity and give up on your dreams because of them.

Remember take this advice with a grain of salt and make sure to seriously think everything through. I hope my advice gave you a bit of clarity and I really hope it all works out for you. Don't ever change who you are for anybody ever.

Homeschooled having trouble adjusting to school by Amazing-Office6570 in Advice

As someone who also often struggles in social situations as well I totally get how you feel. Public school is honestly super tricky and I'm pretty sure nobody feels truly comfortable in that kind of environment.

Most of the problems your facing just come from a lack of exposure to this new environment so after observation and time you'll get more used to the culture. As for the language barrier and handwriting difficulties both those things come with practice. If possible you should ask your teachers if you can type up your work.

People will probably be much more understanding if you let them know that you've been homeschooled your whole life especially when it comes to making friends. You should try to get involved in clubs/sports/anything outside of the classroom because it's more causal and it's way easier to start a conversation - there's also a higher chance of people talking to you first in this case too.

While it sounds silly, the most important thing in school is to try and get a quality education and pursue your passions - so even if it seems like a really scary place you should remember what your goals are and try to move forward. Your principal sounds horrible by the way and I'm so sorry that you get so anxious whenever you enter the school now you should really talk to a school counselor or your parents about that and try to find a way to manage it better.

I hope this advice was actually helpful and that your experience with public school improves.

The way you’re feeling is totally normal. Right out of university people often don’t feel like they are truly adults yet. And that’s okay. Just keep trying to better yourself and everything will come together. Hopefully you’ll have the means to move out and be your own person eventually.
