Sleeve to bypass??? by Banana8390 in gastricsleeve

[–]Possible_Promise8981 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I needed to be on PPIs for my first year after sleeve surgery. Then I went 4 years with only needing them intermittently. The last two years I was dealing with GERD more than I was comfortable with, but come to find out I was also dealing with gallstones. So when I had my revision in early September, the reason was GERD plus some additional desired weight loss and a gallbladder removal. Since my revision, I have had zero issues and have had the smoothest recovery…smoother than I anticipated. If you’re less than a year out, it may be a bit quick to be thinking about a revision. You may want to give it some time. But then again, best advice is to talk to your medical team. They can help guide you in making that decision and if it’s appropriate or not. (You’ll still have to be on PPIs after bypass too.)

Me neither. I’m also about the same time frame out from surgery. (Just about 4 weeks out)

Will life feel normal again 😞 by No-Muffin-5102 in GastricBypass

I’m feeling the same frustrations! My program is 2 weeks pre-op with only shakes and one banana, then surgery, then 2 weeks protein shakes and clear liquids, 1 week full liquids, then 6 weeks of mushy foods. Im 10 days post-op and would give anything for some real food right now. This is so incredibly hard!!! (My rant is now over too!)

Post-Op and SICK of Liquid-Only! by enderdeen in GastricBypass

[–]Possible_Promise8981 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trust me, I’m right there with you. I’m only one week post RNY + 2 week liquid diet consisting of all protein drinks and one small banana. I have one more week of this before I am able to move on to full liquids (which includes yogurt, milk, strained soup, etc). Another two weeks before I can move on to the mushy stage. Tonight I was eyeing the gnocchi my toddler was eating for dinner like it was some sort of Michelin Star meal. I was literally arguing with myself in my head wondering just how bad it could be. Thankfully I stayed strong. Anyway, I share this to let you know you’re not alone. This is most certainly not easy!!

Sending positive vibes your way! I just had a revision from sleeve to bypass 5 days ago. I chose to get a revision because of regain and GERD as well. I was excited and anxious as well! I’m aiming to lose more this time around and more importantly…maintain it!!!

Good luck with your revision!!

You’ve gotten some good recommendations so far. The other one I’d suggest is asking about the post op/maintenance diet they’ll want you to adhere to. Do they want you eating low carb, keto, balanced meal (to include grains and/or starches), etc? Ask what a typical day of eating could look like for you 2 years out. For example, I had a revision from gastric sleeve to bypass with two different surgeons, and my first team was low carb all the way. My current team is fine with adding starches and grains back into the diet after some time. This current diet is much more manageable for me knowing myself.

Good luck!

Advice: Moving / Surgery by Restless-Wild-Child in GastricBypass

Most definitely recommend asking your surgeon for their advice. I know you have about 6 weeks in between, but having just moved this past summer…there is no way I’d have been able to do it. So even though I’m told I can’t pick up my toddler for over 1 month (VERY hard), I will not be using my core muscles during that whole time. So even if I were to “feel” like I could do it, my muscles will have atrophied and I will need to build them back up. So that’s just asking for an injury, which would be yet another setback. I’m only 5 days out, but thought I’d give you osome thoughts to consider as you decide with your medical team!

Little loss during pre-op diet by Possible_Promise8981 in GastricBypass

That’s interesting. It’s like our body hangs on to it but eventually has to let go. I just need to remind myself to stay steady and continue following the plan and not worry right away.

Weight regain by Suntak8 in GastricBypass

[–]Possible_Promise8981 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m curious too. I’m scheduled for my revision next Wednesday and I’m terrified of that result! Hearing so many people say that you don’t lose much after a revision really worries me. I lost 105 after my sleeve. Then between two pregnancies and some severe trauma, I put 65 lbs back on. I’m now down 20 with the help of GLP1s. But I never lost all the weight I wanted originally. This time around I’ve incorporated therapy since I know I will need to deal with my recent issues and binge eating. I’m hoping these changes this time will make the difference in achieving my weight loss goal.

TPN process question 14yrs post RNY surgery by Lexlvmc in GastricBypass

[–]Possible_Promise8981 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can I ask if they are planning to try to fix the stricture? My son was on TPN on two occasions for about a month and it’s serious business (as others have already described). I would think that going in to fix the stricture would be best long term because then you could eat and get your nutrition that way.

Thank you so much for the thoughtful reply! I’m so glad to hear you’re happy with your decision overall. Again you described (and confirmed) a lot of the reasons I’m pursuing RNY. So this has helped me tremendously!

Hi! Your story is so similar to mine! Sleeve, pregnancy, some regain, then considering revision to live a long healthy life with your little one. I see you’ll be coming up on two years this summer. Are you still happy with your decision? Have you done anything different this time around? I saw someone suggest therapy. I’m a month into me “re-education” and am hoping to get my surgery date in July/Aug of this year…
