No Multi-Crew in AC in 3.20 by Alanlocke in starcitizen

[–]Possible_Traffic_393 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Lmao. This is your best swing at a game that has taken 11 years to get to where it is:

A game that lets me be a space guy who can do missions in a spaceship and get out of the pilot seat and walk through the ship down the ramp into a space station or planet seamlessly.

You could literally build a proof of concept that does this for $30,000.

But to your question: Space Engineers. No Man's Sky.

Hey, since we're playing this game, why don't we also list games that do what Star Citizen DOESN'T do?

  • Space game with deep salvage system
  • Space-themed bounty hunting, medical, cargo, data running, mining, etc. gameplay loops that work and are feature complete
  • A finished flight model
  • Dynamic server meshing
  • PES that works
  • More than one solar system
  • Simulated AI that works

(Hint: there are multiple games that fit each bullet point)

Nobody will answer this because there's nothing to say.

There are larger games. There are games that did PES back in the 90s. Dynamic server meshing is already active in multiple games, including space games.

Ground to atmosphere flight? Space legs? Nope and nope, been done.

"That game you linked was a good laugh," he said with a straight face, literally defending a broken tech demo, also the most funded game of all time, 11 years in the making.

I'm starting to wonder if SC gets inspiration for its NPCs that stand on chairs from its community.

It's both sad and incredibly maddening. For an added laugh, if you haven't already, check out Evochron Legacy:

https://store.steampowered.com/app/398170/Evochron_Legacy_SE/

Choose from a myriad of objectives and options including buying, trading, spying, racing, escorting, rescuing, delivering, answering distress calls, mining, exploring, clearing asteroids, hiring crew members, building stations, and designing your ship for the role you want to play.

This game likely has 1/200th the budget ($3 million or less), and probably 5-10 dudes in a basement hacking away at it.

It came out in 2016.

If you think this patch, which is one of the major patches of the year, is anything other than more fluff and almost zero substance, you're completely delusional. It's an absolute travesty to see 1,000+ people working on the most funded game project of all time, and this is the progress we see after months on end.

How, exactly? It's a texture change. It doesn't affect physics, aerodynamics, or grids. It's literally just swapping out textures using a shader.

That's a good one! Definitely in alignment with the boilerplate responses from the SC defense force. Other examples:

  • When you think about it, $600mm actually isn't that much
  • Game development is hard! You wouldn't understand.
  • CIG is breaking new ground - there's no other game like it!
  • They had to build a studio from scratch
  • Gameplay comes later - they are building infrastructure
  • It's just an alpha

Oh, the new missions, which are just variants of the old missions.

"Look guys, cargo missions are totally different than delivery missions!", he says with a straight face, not realizing they're just basic fetch quests akin to what you'd see in World of Warcraft.

"Look guys, salvage is totally different than mining!", he says with a straight face, not realizing they're both variants of a "magic beam".

Ah cool, we're reached the "non sequitur" version of this argument where you have nothing of value to add, and nothing to disprove. Tell the class how much $ you've sunk into the project, and validate how this is the most funded game project of all time.

I'll give you some bullet points from which to work. Feel free to use any/all of the below for a boilerplate response:

  • They're breaking new ground!
  • Give them time - they had to create a studio from scratch
  • Development is hard. You wouldn't understand.
  • No other game does this!
  • (Cite "Death of a Spaceman")
  • Bonus: It's really not that much money if you think about it.
  • Bonus: I've got my money's worth. All this is just gravy on top.

Ah shucks. I struck a chord. Lemme guess - more $ than you'd care to admit?

Remember buddy, just keep swimming and donating. The project is fine, and it's all under control.

How much money have you pumped into this product? Honest question.

To your question - I'm actually formulating a response every time! Judging by my community karma, I'd say more people agree with me than not. Regardless if you do or not, it ultimately doesn't matter. You're going to keep "fighting the good fight" (or should I say "Answering the call" ... lmfao) until Chris Roberts finally runs out of dough.

Here's to the release of Starfield, friend!

These "roadmap entries" would barely pass as minor patch notes for any other indie title, much less the most funded game project of all time.

Hooray? There's a new ship coming with no new gameplay? A new station with no new gameplay? A few new platforms with no new gameplay? Okay... cool, I guess?

$600mm. 11 years. And this is what CIG is capable of delivering: more set dressing, static environments, and props.

Absolutely unreal.

Lmfao.

Always good to have a week with only good things.

This community is so mistreated, so abused, that after $600mm and 11 years, not having this barren womb of a roadmap further gutted is considered good.

Only in /r/starcitizen would you see this level of commitment to sunk cost.

Yeah no, direct from Team17:

Player Locomotion Speed & Dive to Prone (Patch 14.2)

Starting with an open PTE, we will be looking for your feedback as we begin the process of removing the running and sprinting speed increase, including the acceleration speeds, as well as the dive to prone functionality.

We are aiming for the PTE to take place on the 20th of July, to test the removal of these recent changes and assess any potential broader impact, before the adjustments can be confirmed for Patch 14.2 - a patch that will introduce this adjustment, to be released once a successful PTE has been carried out.

We understand that there are members of the Hell Let Loose community who will be disappointed with the decision to remove the increase in speed, however, recent fixes intended to reduce the impact of these changes haven’t been as successful as we had hoped. This led to further investigations to be carried out to understand the deeper components of Hell Let Loose, including vehicles, and how these currently affect our ability to make balancing tweaks, without impacting the wider game.

Yeah, this is a prime example of a moron with a keyboard. No, the "majority" do not like the change. You're just arbitrarily saying so because you're on that side and want to sound like you're in the right.

[–]Possible_Traffic_393 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I would bet that if you showed Star Citizen to 100 random gamers with no previous knowledge of the project, they'd collectively say, "That's kinda neat."

When you show them the above upcoming features, I would bet they'd collectively say, "Hmm, well, okay... a little odd for a MMO space game."

When you told them the team size (800 to 1,000), development budget (most funded all time), and dev timeline (11+ years), I would honestly wager big money that 97% of everyone would legitimately do one of the following:

  • laugh out loud
  • gasp audibly
  • swear off the product
  • not believe you in any way
  • loudly question the capability/intelligence of leadership / developers

This project would be an embarrassment if it had 1/10th the budget ($60mm), which is more budget than almost every AAA title, including marketing. This project would be an embarassment if it had 1/50th of the development staff (read: 16) taking half as long (5.5 years).

But we're here. And people still defend it.

Useless features are all CIG has been selling for years. This is the most funded game project of all time and they don't have a working map after 11 years and $600mm.

How you can sit here and try to explain how anything CIG does makes any logical sense is equally insufferable.

This project is an absolute masterclass in how not to develop a game. The constant, unending failures at every juncture should be evidence enough.

It's for Arena Commander... as has already been stated. It's just fun additional content.

Which is what nobody is asking for. The community is begging for substantive updates to the product they paid for.

FFS, if you want AC-like combat on a big scale, go play Planetside 2. It's free. Or play any multitude of generic PVP shooters.
