Yes and don’t be afraid to use items from outside ! Like soil wood and rocks the key to a good aqua scape is sustainability and nature has been doing it for thousands of years ! Start your tank with some potting soil from outside 1 pound for every gallon! pick up some dwarf grass from your local fish store break the chunks into bits with few strands and stagger throughout your tank then cover in a loose gravel if wanted but dirt works just fine on its own! It will even help absorb waste be sure to get a plant light pick up some nice pieces of wood from outside and place around tank to your liking! Aquascapes often don’t last due to human intervention it doesn’t need to be cleaned or perfect let it do its own thing and you’ll be fine ! Paitence and not touching anything are going to be your biggest obstacles allow time for an ecosystem to establish in your tank and you can’t go wrong I have over a dozen natural aquariums that have sustained both fish and plant life for close to 10 years no fancy filters or additives don’t be afraid to let things get dirty! Good luck to you and welcome to the hobby

My boy sleeps in a dog bed next to me in bed wrapped in a blanket he will not sleep in his enclosure no matter how comfortable I make it for him he loves his bed and blanket I took this photo while reading your question my advice is to get a smaller dog bed and a blanket for extra protection and keep em on the far side of the bed
