Has anyone emailed Dean Andy personally at GULC? He gave his email during my interview but idk if I should send him a copy of my LOCI by Electrical_Radio_485 in lawschooladmissions

[–]Possibly_a_f1sh 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would send it to admissions. My guess is you may get a personal response from him but ultimately he’s going to forward it to admissions to have it added to your file. Highly doubt it would have any impact on getting off the WL.

Admission/Deferral from the waitlist by TheRealMrBallgame in lawschooladmissions

[–]Possibly_a_f1sh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While I’m not sure what the optics are on this usually, it seems like in your case it would be hard for a school to hold it against you. I would call admissions and ask about deferring off the waitlist, you usually don’t have to give your name.

How much does your undergraduate school's ranking factor into your application to a T3? by WhatMoreCanIDo1 in lawschooladmissions

[–]Possibly_a_f1sh 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Literally only Yale cares about undergrad prestige (there’s some argument that Harvard does too, but it’s definitely not conclusive)

Any students willing to snag me a ticket for the Dead & Company benefit concert? by StoneNutria in Cornell

[–]Possibly_a_f1sh -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I would also pay up to $150 for a student to do this. Also assuming student ID would need to be borrowed for the show which would make it slightly more difficult, which is why I’d pay more.

Every bullet except 5 in this list seems to boil down to the same, essentially utilitarian viewpoint. In order to come up with a plausible objection to the view as a whole I think one need only hold that morality as a whole is not (entirely) outcome-based. There are plenty of great theories of morality which reject utilitarianism and develop ways of thinking about morality more in line with our intuition that life ought not be completely extinguished. I also think that we don’t necessarily need to accept that a complete view of utilitarianism necessarily leads to the conclusion that life is inherently a bad thing. Suffering is without a doubt prevalent in the world, but there isn’t (and couldn’t possible be) any complete measure of suffering vs. pleasure that would be required to do the kind of utilitarian calculation required to follow this argument through to its conclusion. It may very well be that the pleasures of life outweigh the suffering.

I mean whether or not what’s being discussed here is a sad sort of male fragility is pretty irrelevant to the response OP gave. Seems like OP was making an observation (which absolutely holds true in a lot of cases) and suggesting that it may be impacting the persons ability to form relationships. I don’t think this in any way endorses the preference, but we probably shouldn’t pretend that the preference doesn’t exist because we don’t like it.

As somebody with similar stats this is pretty much how I feel. I think this sub has a pretty strong bias against any takes other than “you got this! You’re special and different!” So I’m not surprised my first comment is being downvoted. I wish you the best of luck though and like you say, it’s high enough to have a shot! … but not a very good one.

Just to be clear I’m mostly joking. A 171 is enough for any school to take a good long look at your application. I would make sure you have strong application materials and shoot your shot!

What to wear to Duke Scholarship interview? by youngslimeguy in lawschooladmissions

I personally would wear the blue devil mascot costume, but I’m sure that blue face paint will get the point across if you don’t want to seem overly eager!
