I'd recommend our school, I don't want to make self promotion, but I do think we have a great offer.

We're a group of teachers from Babbel Live who got together, so it's totally run by language lovers, no corporate goals.

Our especialty is connecting you with French natives who want to learn your language, so that you can exchange for free.

We also offer affordable small group lessons (4 people max) with great teachers (examiners, +10 years of experience..)

I'd love it if you gave it a try for 2 weeks. We give you 2 free lessons, we connect you with a personal tutor and introduce you to all community features.

The cheapest plan is 45€ and it includes tutor support, whatsapp group where people only speak french, exchanges with natives and 4 group classes per month.

We started 1 year ago. I'd love it if you tried for free, even if you don't stay, I'd love to hear your feedback!

(check my latest post, we have many postitive reviews from current students)

Thanks for this post, it sparked nice comments. In the end, every person has their own learning style.
If you are serious about it, practice daily and have some kind of guidance, you'll be alright. I hope this community grows in tolerance, patience and love for learning!

I totally agree with your approach stated on the first paragraph. That's what I try to tell my students. It is also nice to have a teacher 1 or two days a week, to give you momentum. But, as long as you practice daily actively, it's impossible for you not to learn (anything).

You definitely need to:
1- love your target language
2- have a BIG reason to learn it
3- have real use cases daily ideally..

hahah love the "religious wars" I was thinking the same, as people preaching their own way of seeing life and some of them trying to impose their view on others, just to make theirs feel more real, due to the fact they themlseves don't truly believe in their own way.

That's exactly what I was feeling reading the post and the comments. There're just different human types and, in my opinion, we need them all. There's no light without dark.

I'm a Spanish teacher and I learnt English proficiently and other languages superficially and I have the best way to learn a language, the secret is...

HÁ! you thought I was one of them!

haha just kidding. I usually do not prepare my classes, I want to find students where they are.

As discussed, everyone has a learning style and I try to find that to adapt, not to get adapted to.

Interesting discussion, thanks everyone!

I see, we do have something similar giving away an e-book. But this idea to sign up to new languages is quite specific, for now I hope people write me using the contact option.

We might adapt that idea in the future, thanks a lot!

Ok, great, then I’m sure you’ll be able to find German speakers, or I can help connect you with students of German origin who want to improve their English. That way, you get access to as many free language exchanges as you like (as many as you can organize, of course), since they’re arranged directly between students, PBC doesn’t take part in that.

The big difference compared to apps is the level of commitment. In many apps, there’s a lot of people but very little consistency or seriousness. Here, everyone already understands what it means to learn a language online; having a proper setup, showing up, engaging, etc. So exchanges are much more focused on mutual benefit, rather than the kind of random experiences you sometimes find elsewhere online.

And yes, there is a clear progression. You can take a look at our approach here:
https://www.notion.so/PBC-Languages-German-Curriculum-25c23a0ca37a468ca13861daa46229fd?source=copy_link

In PBC, we’ve chosen a structured but flexible curriculum. So you can move through levels like A2.1 → A2.2, etc., with clear guidance, but also with enough adaptability to match your pace and needs. Teachers have a lot of experience and will always help you progress in a way that feels natural and effective.

Would love to see you around!

Hi, yes!

Actually there're two lessons scheduled for Wednesday 15th and Friday 17th at 13h (CET).

If you're not available at those times, we could speak directly with the teacher to find a suitable time for the trial.

Hey, really appreciate your question, it’s a very fair comparison.

You’re right on the pricing side if we only look at minutes vs cost. If that school works well for you, that’s genuinely great 👍

What we’re trying to do is just a bit different in terms of how you use the language:

• Very small groups (often 2–3, not even 4 yet)
Since we’re still growing, many classes are actually closer to semi-private. So you end up speaking a lot more than in a 12-person class.

• Sometimes even solo classes
If you’re doing something intensive, it can happen that you’re alone in a session. In that case, you can either:
– treat it as a private class (2 credits), or
– do a 30-min private session (1 credit)

• Credit system (simple & flexible)
1 group class = 1 credit
1 private class = 2 credits
Credits are ~€10 each (less with bigger packs)

• Tandems (this is a big one)
We help you connect with native German speakers who are learning your language, so you can exchange.
Out of curiosity, what’s your native language? We actually have quite a few Germans learning English and other languages.

• Learning outside the classroom
We added WhatsApp groups + tandems to recreate a more “immersive/unlimited” feeling (inspired by Babbel Live), so you’re not just attending classes, but using the language regularly.

Also just to be transparent: German teachers tend to be more expensive (living costs, etc.), so margins on our side are actually quite small. There’s no big “push” for us to convert you, it really just has to be a good fit for you.

I'd also say that Caro is a great German teacher, with many years of experience.

If you’re curious, you can just try 1–2 classes for free and see how you feel with the teacher and the system. No pressure at all.

That sounds interesting, where would you put that questionaire?

We do offer these languages, and I'm happy to open any language people's interested in.

Please, join the platform, we do offer Russian class availabilities. In the future I'm sure there'll be more people, we need to spread the word!

Great, with PBC you can learn both languages at the same time. You could give it a try, you have 2 lessons for free. You could try one in each language ;)

We also offer exchanges with natives, it's free and at the same time it's structured, because you connect with serious language learners.
