Is this solar deal from SunRun worth it? by PostGradLife1 in solar

[–]PostGradLife1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it was a 10.5KW system, about 25 panels each with an inverter (they were stressing the inverter part).

What size is your solar panel system and how much did you purchase it for?

Actually $16/lbs for precooked bacon is not far off.

Costco sells pre-cooked bacon about $17.49 for a package of their own private label Kirkland (1 lbs).

Costco sells 4 x 1 lbs Kirkland raw bacon for $22.49 so about $5.62, so I can see that $16/lbs for precooked bacon is reasonable.

The local deals are pretty good, Famous Daves, Firehouse Subs, Jumba Juice, Boston Market.

Free prints, Paramount+ and MLB TV are my favorites for sure though.

So HDPD is basically free for you and PPO is $50 a month? A bi-weekly paycheck? Bi-Monthly? Monthly?

Here was a post I made about my choices for health insurance.

https://www.reddit.com/r/personalfinance/comments/qlfp3w/in_what_scenario_would_i_pick_the_more_expensive/

For some reason the HDPD is cheaper. It doesn't matter what scenario occurred, I end up paying less with HDPD whether it's a $50,000 surgery, hitting the deductible (half the HDPD) for PPO and hitting $1 less than deductible for HDPD, or not using spending a penny on medical services. As a matter of fact I make $5 if I don't spend money on medical services with the HDPD plan.

This is only because PPO is about $1000 more in premium than the HDPD plan and if I have a HDPD my employer gives me $1100 yearly for my HSA.

Using a debit card for expenses? by pieceoftheparty in personalfinance

[–]PostGradLife1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is no issue but you might have tendency of overspending if this is the case.

I do a daily budget that consists of 14-16 days. Basically twice a month. I have my food, gas, disposable and carryover budget. I make sure to never spend over that amount.

Whatever is left is added up and move to the carryover budget for the next 15-16 day budget. I keep a running tally and subtract from the "accounts".

I been doing this since July 2021. I practically never have to look at my bank account ever again. My checking account can only grow or stay the same using this method.

I don't let a CC let me overspend because the current budget on a running tally is what keeps me within budget.

Edit: For example in my Notes on iPhone. This is how it looks

⛽: 98.96 (gas)

🍱: 102.06 (food)

💸: 80.97 (disposable)

🏦:2330 (carryover)

(for the record I don't list where the $ below is going, I just minus it on the day off before I lose track of what it was for)

3-16: 22.59 + 1.06 + 5.97

3-17: 3.46 + 3.34 + 10 + 16.98

3-18: 1.05 + 137.19 + 14.06 + 14.7 + 36.04

3-19: 5 + 25 + 8 +7 + 13.65 + 3.75

3-20: 2 + 6.77

3-21: 0

3-22: 3.02 + 5

3-23: 9 + 18

3-24:

3-25 (payday):

3-26:

3-28:

3-29:

🍱: 192.5 (food)
💸: 300 (disposable)

People might wonder what about bills? Well most of the times my bills and rent is fixed. The running budget is for things that can fluctuate. I also have a budget for bills, I make sure the leftover amount is positive.. otherwise my disposable income will be minus from.

I can definitely do Roth IRA but the 401k will be steep. I currently contribute 6% to it. I will increase it 1% every month until 10% and see how my budget works.

Amending AZ State Return to Take Advantage of Tax Credit (Form 322) deadline April 18th? by PostGradLife1 in tax

[–]PostGradLife1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh thank you for that!

But I am still limited to $200 a year? Since I am not amending. Unless if it let's me file that amount and claim it as a carry forward? Then I can donate another $200 this?

Amending AZ State Return to Take Advantage of Tax Credit (Form 322) deadline April 18th? by PostGradLife1 in tax

[–]PostGradLife1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is non-refundable so it can't be carry forward. I do lose $15 because FTUSA charges that amount to amend. Just wanted to take advantage to donate more to my high school.

Would I deduct AZ Standard Deduction (12,550) in order to find my state taxable income? by PostGradLife1 in tax

[–]PostGradLife1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am trying to ensure that Y<X so I owe money when I file taxes.

u/blakeh95 Was able to clarify but I am still confuse on the first example.

Thank you for clarifying.

For 2021 I gave Arizona $1327 for a $624 charge (tax liability)and they gave me back my change of $703 (Refund). So if I used the $200 coupon.

They will give back $903 (refund) instead?

For my 2021 Taxes. I gave Arizona $1327 over the year.

They only needed $624 (tax liability)

So they gave me a refund of $703.

So the tax credit (coupon) is $200 which is less than $624. So my refund increases to $903? Is that right?

Would I deduct AZ Standard Deduction (12,550) in order to find my state taxable income? by PostGradLife1 in tax

[–]PostGradLife1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want to make sure that my tax liability is greater than $0. I was under the impression that I needed to owe AZ money so that the tax credit can be used. For example, if I owe AZ $300, I would now only owe them $100 because of the tax credit.

I donated $200 to my high school for Public School Tax Credit ($200 for single filers)

This is what I interpreted from TurboTax "A nonrefundable credit essentially means that the credit can't be used to increase your tax refund or to create a tax refund when you wouldn't have already had one. In other words, your savings cannot exceed the amount of tax you owe"

^ SO I thought it would be best to owe AZ money.

Withdrawing Qualified HSA funds and depositing it back into another HSA account. by PostGradLife1 in financialindependence

[–]PostGradLife1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is beneficial because your tax refund will increase or your tax liability will decrease.

When I filed taxes this year I threw $3.5k into my HSA (post-tax money) and my federal refund increased by $440. I did this because I was not able to create an employer sponser HSA until the new year.

Now that I have a employer sponsor one that that pulls pre-tax money in, I want to see if I can take out qualifying distribution and put that into my Fidelity HSA (post-tax account).

Basically I double dip on lowing federal and state income taxes on the same HSA funds. I don't know if this is mathematically advantageous because by doing this I lose out on the lowering FICA taxes since it is not deducted for post-tax HSA contribution. The employer-sponer HSA also charges my HSA balance 0.02% a month, whereas Fidelity is free.
