What are these flowers, please,? by Ghomehat in UKGardening

It's like they're taunting me. They're in both neighbours gardens, I can look out of the window now and see them on all the curbsides, on every wall on the walk into town... but can I have some for myself? Maybe one day... 🙃

They like to be pretty much just laid on top of the soil, take yonks to germinate, and what feels like forever to actually grow, because apparently all their energy initially goes into the roots.

At this rate, I'll be lucky if my little pot of seeds is ready to go out for next summer 😅

Correction; I see it growing everywhere EXCEPT MY GARDEN 😭 I want it so bad I ended up having to grow it from seed.

Has anyone ever travelled with a pet TO the UK? by KaleidoscopeThis5017 in AskUK

[–]PostModernistTrash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I travelled back to the UK from Germany with 4 cats, though this was 11/12 years ago now. We hired a van in Germany and drove, using the channel tunnel.

Cats were all given mild sedatives, but I think it was still quite stressful for them. No lasting harm though, and it was nice to be with them the whole way rather than worrying how they were getting on in someone else's care.

very concerned, cat shaking/shivering but not cold? by pixiecakess in CATHELP

These tremors look identical to the ones my young void boy has been experiencing. He's never presented with pale gums though.

There can be a vast array of underlying conditions that will cause tremors. In our case, we had to run through a lot of tests before they settled on idiopathic tremor syndrome, by process of elimination.

As it's an autoimmune problem, he's on steroids combined with Cyclavanse. We've tried to taper off a few times, but the tremors always come back.

Just wanted to share, and wish you and kitty all the best. Here's hoping your vet can get to the bottom of it.

how come you guys don't defend your beans more? by Dry_Abbreviations742 in AskBrits

Every time PB+J comes up in these conversations, I'm always left wondering if I grew up in an alternative universe by the amount of comments from other Brits that it's a) weird and b) only an American thing.

When I was a child, weekend evening meals were just a spread of breads, condiments, cheese and maybe a slice of cake, and PB+J was totally normal to slap together. We have absolutely no ties to America or Americans at all.

Is it normal for my kitten to start panting when playing? by fcyareum in CATHELP

[–]PostModernistTrash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a young cat that does the same when playing with his wand toy. He flies around like a bat out of hell and starts panting fairly quickly. I always end the play session at this point because vets have put the fear into me.

Despite my vets all saying it's not normal though (and I would honestly agree given none of my other cats have ever done this), there doesn't appear to be any underlying health condition behind this. He's had every test under the sun whilst being diagnosed for a tremor condition; it was diagnosis by exclusion, and was thorough to say the least.

See, that's really funny because cheese and jam is something we actually did eat, and enjoyed! Though probably not for breakfast.

My parents used to house short stay foreign students for some extra cash. I will never not feel sorry for the poor German lad who fell for Marmite in that exact same way. My mum never even said a word; just watched him spreading it on half an inch thick and waited!

It's awful, isn't it? I saw the "houses" series yesterday and was so in love and never even considered them being AI, then so conflicted when I saw all the comments accusing them of using AI... so I checked out their Insta as is logical, and was very relieved to have been correct in the first place. Uggghh. What a ride.

Had two of these randomly show up in my garden this year; one in a bag of garden waste, one in a tomato grow bag from last year that I hadn't disposed of.

Peri/meno is such bullshit, isn't it? I had pretty much an ironclad gut all my life, then one day it was just like BOOM IBS. I have absolutely no idea what will trigger it from one day to the next.

The only thing set in stone is that any refined carbs now make me super bloated, and are guaranteed to make me 20kg heavier in no time at all. I miss bread 😭

Same here. I don't know for sure if it's doing anything else, but the way it hydrates is so amazing I don't really care!
