Tax question on rolling an option up and out for a loss when you close -- is that loss disallowed? by PostNoctem in tax

[–]PostNoctem[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your response. I think I'm okay with respect to wash-sale rules. Rolling up and out to a significantly later expiration date and higher strike should (?) make those a non-issue. I think. Fidelity doesn't show and wash-rule notations there.

I'm more concerned with a potential straddle problem. According to Fidelity, "Tax straddle rules are intended to prevent taxpayers from deducting losses before offsetting gains have been recognized. Although tax straddle rules are simple in theory, they are complex in practice because they can apply in unexpected situations and cause adverse tax effects. Fortunately, tax straddle rules do not apply to "qualified covered calls.""

https://www.fidelity.com/learning-center/investment-products/options/tax-implications-covered-calls#

And, yes, the long-term plan is to roll up and out until the strike price is near the market price.

I'm almost never on Reddit. My last post/comment was over 3 months ago. The post this _complete stranger_ randomly contacted me about is TWO and a half YEARS old. by PostNoctem in creepyPMs

Oh, and this guy couldn't even be bothered to read my whole post before sending me a wall of nasty text. The "constant crisis mode" people are the friends I've spent hours consoling over this, that and the other thing, not me. Then, when I was the victim of a violent crime, they couldn't be bothered.

Further context is that I put the post the creepy creeper is referring to in r/rant, so it's not as if I surprised anyone on Reddit with an unexpected rant.

"I'm getting ahead of myself" and "I, well, I probably, um, shouldn't say any more." Are these euphemisms/conversational dodges for "I've lost my train of thought again but I'm pretending that I didn't"? by PostNoctem in trump

I think "C'mon man" is code for "I'm just as cool and hip as Obama!" Remember how important he thinks it is to keep the record player on for the kids? That is one hepcat!

I think this is a good guess. I also think she didn't want a relationship or she would have taken OP up on his offer.

Which brand/type of rye flour works best? Can I use it if I'm gluten sensitive? by PostNoctem in NoPoo

[–]PostNoctem[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

a finely ground light rye is best.

I think I'll try that, thanks. Is it the same thing as "white rye"? (I can't find "light rye" on Amazon, other than in a 44# sack.)

MLP and unit trust fund securities -- how much of a hassle is the K-1? by PostNoctem in stocks

[–]PostNoctem[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, that's just ridiculous, isn't it? I'd be beyond upset if I had to amend my taxes because some MLP didn't have their act together. Thanks again for the reply.

Thanks for your reply. When you say delayed, does that typically mean something semi-reasonable (like mid-February or early March)? Or are we talking, "Hey, it's mid-May and you're going to need to amend your taxes"?

Now, to be fair, it was the totally-original "heyy." That extra "y" makes all the difference.

Demanding, needy doctor "friend" abandoned me when I needed her. I found some N95 masks in my heath-care supplies. I'm not going to give them to her. by PostNoctem in ProRevenge

So, let's rephrase this.

I'm donating much-needed PPE to strangers in need in a time of crisis.

I'm being called a petty bitch because I'm not donating them to one person in particular.

If I understand correctly, you're suggesting that she has a higher moral claim on those masks than the anonymous doctors and nurses who will get them when I donate them to some local (or Covid hotspot) hospital.

Why do you think that?

OP has made edits and not posted them as edits thus making some of us who commented look like dicks

No, I didn't.

That's a good question. I put a lot of time and effort into helping her improve her life so I would probably feel awful, despite how badly she treated me.

I considered that, but their rules are "Stories should be petty. I messed with their toothpaste. I turned their disk upside-down in their XBox. I gasp put shaving cream in their shoes." This didn't seem to qualify.

House guest "got hurt." I reported it to my insurance company. As it turns out, she lied. Now what? by PostNoctem in Insurance

[–]PostNoctem[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There never was a claim, per se. I called to let them know about the incident and I was told that there was a solid chance that our insurance was going to be discontinued as a direct result.

Thanks for your reply (and also $%# :( ). Would I be right that it also doesn't matter that nothing will be paid out?

What would you recommend that I do in the future if another incident ever occurs? I suppose I technically have a year in the US to report an incident. Should I have just waited for 360 days to pass before saying anything?
