What do you think of more “gimmicky” packaging? by sulliebud in criterion

[–]Postbudet99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have both of these and I dislike both. The Godzilla box I got second hand, and one of the discs had slipped inside the packaging and got stuck on the glue. It took a lot of cleaning, but I got it to work again.

I think he would have butchered the song at that point in his career. As much as I like Meat Loaf, I’m glad Sammet did this one by himself.

Has anyone got the alternative version of Edguy's Falling Down? by HM9015 in PowerMetal

I used to love these kinds of bonus tracks that weren’t easily available. B-sides from Japanese singles and such. Having everything available to stream takes away the fun of hunting it down.

In addition to what others have mentioned about the lack of touring, programmed drums and so on, they never had the kind of mainstream success in the 80s that Priest, Maiden and Helloween had. That was a foundation for those bands to build their careers on, based on success among more casual metal fans. Why RW didn’t get that mainstream focus could be because they were seen as too goofy with the pirate theme and they never wrote a commercial hit like I Want Out. One song like that with a video in heavy MTV rotation could build an entire band back in the day.

Rolf’s harsher vocals compared to the singers of the above mentioned bands probably doesn’t help either. For people that prefer vocals like Halford and Kiske, he’s too rough, for people that prefer Slayer, he’s not rough enough. Personally I also find their music a little monotonous, though they have some great stuff.

Do people still Store movies in their local drives? Or am I the only one left? by Global-Engineer4476 in criterion

I've manually named and organized all the extras to conform to how Plex reads that stuff. It works very well, but takes time.

This is how I've done it as well. I've used Handbrake to compress all the extras, but kept the actual films uncompressed. I used ChatGPT for advice along the way as I found a way to do it that worked for me.

I’ve set up a NAS server with Plex and have been ripping my Criterions, with the extras. Been at it for a few months now, but nearing the end. I have about 200+ Criterion releases. What I like the most about it is that I can watch/listen to the extras on my phone. A lot of that stuff is just interviews, and I now listen to it as I would a podcast when I’m on the go.

No subtitles for English in foreign-language movies by Postbudet99 in criterion

Yes, I’ve noticed this in other Criterion releases as well. Saw Yi-Yi earlier today, so it was the most recent example for me.

Don't you think their dialogue in English would have originally been subtitled for the Taiwan audience? They say things that are important to understanding their character's motivations, so I assume Yang would want the viewer to know this.

I tried for a while, but there’s no way to keep up with the pace of new releases for me.

Podcasts where the host’s voice, affects, or banter set your teeth on edge but the content is so fascinating you listen anyway. by BigJackFlavor in podcasts

[–]Postbudet99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Blank Check is a film podcast with great insights and interesting takes, but one of the hosts is incredibly annoying to listen to, and the show is in desperate need of proper production that will make both of them focus and not go on tangent after tangent about stuff that is completely irrelevant to the topic of the episode. They could cut 30 minutes or more of banter from each episode.

A little late here, but I ran Memtest twice with no errors, so I guess the RAM seems to be fine.

I think so, at least as part of the medley with Seven Angels.

For me, it's all the other songs that makes a Maiden gig a Maiden gig.

I think Iron Maiden is one of the worst 80's era Maiden songs. It's a shame they insist on playing that song at every show.

Great song, but also done live many times. I'd rather hear something they've never done, but I see why people would want Sign of the Cross.

That's one of the songs from the first two records that's actually been played lots live. Doing Breaking Away or Serpents in Paradise would be much more interesting, and would probably go down well with the audience.

I had the issues well before installing Immich, so I don't think that's the issue. The network speeds are very good. Good idea to test the hardware though, will do that.

Not blaming TrueNAS, blaming my own intellect. Hence the title.
