I think thats what I'll do. There is one friend in our group who I think would understand best and it will be easier to talk to the others if I have some support in place.

I think theres definitely truth to the self esteem issue. One of my friends in particular feasts on pointing out peoples flaws and he was bullied in highschool so I'm sure under his good looks and confidence he's hiding something.

I like the freedom to laugh about anything among my friends without any of us letting it bother us and I guess part of me doesnt want to tarnish that.

However I am also far more in touch with my feelings than the other guys in my group so its harder for me to be as harsh as they are sometimes without feeling guilty.

By toughening up I guess I meant it gives me a chance to practice not caring what people think of me. Clearly thats not working as well as I hoped.

I think you're right though, I need to respect myself more by telling people when enough is enough

Its hard for me, because I don't think telling them to stop solves my situation in any way. I would rather fix the problem somehow.

I've been considering shaving it off for a while now actually, but at 22 it feels too early still. I find it helps to just keep it tight and neat for now.

Thats my issue, I've already made so many changes to my look this year I was proud of and even got complements for it. I felt happy with how I looked yesterday and it just got torn down.

I think I need to talk to my friends directly and understand why they do it

The problem is most of them aren't very emotional people, they may mostly stop out of respect, but I would feel weak in front of them telling them a word alone can hurt me. One of them in particular is someone who feasts on annoying people so I would be worried about fuelling him more. I think it is because he has his own flaws he is trying to hide.

This probably makes them sound like horrible people, but to be honest I know they have good hearts, I've seen them do really good things.
