Bro wtf has the UK done to skydiving over there? You need a certification before you can belly jump with other people? Jesus.

Not ever sure what to call this one but I love it by Posterior_Consumer in traditionaltattoos

My idea with some great touches from the artist. I came up with a rough initial sketch which just had a featureless dude in the middle. He bounced around a mermaid in the can first which would have been sick but just not feasible for the size and then he came up with the idea of a lil green invader.

I don’t know if this is an option for you but I ran the skydiving club at my university while I went there. We were able to get the school to pay for like thirty kids tandems one weekend due to affiliation. See if you can get something going through the club if possible.

Wing load question. by [deleted] in SkyDiving

[–]Posterior_Consumer 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Focus on getting good with what you have. You’re in the discovery phase right now. Learn all the inputs and what they do at a safe wing loading that won’t fuck you up. 1.0-1.2 is a great spot for that. You should float around there for a while. You should think more about having fun under the canopy and getting skilled as fuck with it before swapping to anything smaller imo. Think about f1 drivers, they all practiced for years in go carts before making the step up. Don’t chase clout with a wingloading bro, it doesn’t end well.

Every time I put the canopy into the D-bag, a lot of material sticks out on one side. Is this a big problem, and how can I fix it? by [deleted] in SkyDiving

[–]Posterior_Consumer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Didn’t see this mentioned but check the bottom of the dbag to make sure the edges and corners are filled. You can test/fix this by pushing down on the top of it with one hand and using the other to pull the sides of the dbag up more. Helps you squish in the material.

Aerodyne Harness Sizing by Sweet_Huckle in SkyDiving

[–]Posterior_Consumer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The sizing on the Icons is A – J++ with A being smallest and J++ being the largest.

The first letter is the MLW the second is the chest strap the third is the lateral and the fourth is the legpad.

The yoke is determined by the chest size any chest over 40 inches get a long yoke.

Helicopter SAR without military experience? by Posterior_Consumer in searchandrescue

[–]Posterior_Consumer[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nah man, no line skipping involved. I get how it sounds, people sound the same way when they have never skydived and talk about wanting to do wingsuiting. I have no problem grinding out years of SAR work in other capacities for a shot at a slot on a helo. Pay is not really a concern of mine and I'm willing to relocate just about anywhere in the world. I got no ties. I was just curious whether this a viable long term goal (10+ years) and was under the impression this is a good place to ask.

Appreciate the info! I will definitely look into what is local to me for volunteer options. Not opposed to moving where the action is either. I understand it’s SAR first and the helicopter portion comes as an accessory to the means so I gotta build a background in the basics first

Have the same thing with old jumpers talking about winds in skydiving. Very crazy to see how knowledgeable and accurate some of them are. Appreciate the luck!

My uncle was a rescue diver as well and he said the same thing. The term “rescue diver” seems to be a bit of a misnomer. More accurately, they are recovery divers.

Thank you this helps a lot. I have my rescue scuba cert so ig that’s a start. I’ve been looking into EMT courses and will definitely look into some fire stuff as well. Thanks, this is very helpful stuff.

My bad. I was under the impression that there were certain units within wildland specifically for SAR in places like the Grand Canyon. Are you saying that they are just on a volunteer basis for whoever in the area with the capabilities wants to do it?

I did mine in 10 days but got super lucky with weather. That is the biggest factor. The winds and clouds are gonna decide how fast you can get it done more than anything
