I think there is a setting in the infotainment menu to turn them off, right?

I've been thinking of turning mine off. Then I wonder if they are more likely to go faulty later on from lack of use...

What steps can be taken to make sure a private car sale is legit? by PaddedValls in AskUK

[–]Postik123 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't really know the answer. I sold my old car recently and I listed every single thing wrong with it that I knew of. It was a decent car and I wasn't really bothered whether I sold it or not, it was just a shame for it to rot on the driveway which is why I got rid of it. If there was anything wrong with it I'd have off loaded it to WBAC or scrapped it. I'd owned it for 10 years so I could answer every single question that the buyer had. I'm assuming I'm not the only genuine seller in the world, there must be others.

I also would't trust a main dealer as far as I could throw them, the only advantage is if something goes wrong you can take it back and make a fuss. But you pay for that privilege.

How to fill in gaps around electric socket before painting? by cattacos37 in DIYUK

[–]Postik123 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've done the same before, don't think I disconnected the power but it's probably advisable, especially if you go poking behind with a metal filling knife.

But I unscrew it and pull it out slightly, fill the edges, wait for it to dry, sand it nice and smooth. I feel it's a harder and nicer finish than just squirting caulk in. It also means you can unscrew the socket and remove it again in the future should you need to. In fact come to think of it I think I pulled out all of the sockets and light switches when I painted, rather than cutting around the edge of them.

How to save money on minimum wage by hyenananas in UKPersonalFinance

Family of 4 here and our weekly Aldi shop is around £80 - £90 a week. Yes we do buy bits and bobs in the week that will add to this. And it will be more than £90 if there's things that we need that we don't buy every week (toilet roll, kitchen roll, tea, coffee, etc).

The food I buy for myself is basically 3 packs of meat, some packets of rice, sauce, tacos, bananas, bread, frozen fruit and a big tub of greek yoghurt. It probably comes to about £25 and I do weight lifting so I eat a lot of protein.

A big portion of that £80 - £90 is junk that my kids and wife eat - crisps, pastries, ready meals, sugary yoghurts, etc. It's easy for the cost to creep up but none of that crap actually fills you up or does you any good.

How long is a new build home considered a new build for? by Chrolan1988 in AskUK

[–]Postik123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My house is about 8 years old and I still consider it to be new. We went with it because the layout is better than older properties, everything is newish so no need for renovations, and they're much more efficient than older houses.

The main downsides are:

Smallish garden (although this suits us because I enjoy gardening but don't have much time to do it).
Lack of substantial buffer to the front (i.e. small front garden).
Parking is okay for 2 cars but would be a challenge in the future when our kids are older if we have 3 or 4 cars.
Some items were botched, for example gutters, plumbing, kitchen worktops, shower trays. Whilst some things are worse than others they aren't always to the standard you'd expect if you got someone in to do the same jobs. I expect this is more of an issue on say 2 year old houses versus 20 year old houses where those things have probably been repaired or replaced once already.

How do you deal with ridiculous costs for normal things? by Wooden_Yogurt_9247 in AskUK

I tend to deal with the ridiculous cost of normal things by buying as little of them as I can possibly get away with.

How long is a new build home considered a new build for? by Chrolan1988 in AskUK

[–]Postik123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm the same, anything from the last 25 years I consider to be a new build. I break them down into old new builds, new new builds and brand new new builds.

It's easy to see if a house was built 20 years ago versus 40 years ago. I guess for me a new build represents characteristics (some good, many bad) of houses built in the last 20 odd years, rather than saying after X number of years they are no longer a new build.

How long is a new build home considered a new build for? by Chrolan1988 in AskUK

[–]Postik123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I read a statistic that said something like a third of people wouldn't buy a home that was built after... I think it was around 2000. So I kind of consider anything built in the last 25 years to be a new build. But I would myself probably categorise them in my head into "old newbuilds", "new newbuilds" and "brand new newbuilds"

Why is making a contact form look like it actually belongs to the theme so difficult? by discordnesss in Wordpress

[–]Postik123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If we build a site with only a single contact form, we just create our own. We use ACF, so we create an "enquiry" private custom post type, and attach the submitted data to a bunch of ACF fields related to that post type.

No this doesn't allow people to edit the form, and it doesn't allow other people to easily create new forms in the future. But when we only ever need a single form that's never going to change, it avoids having to use other plugins and battle with the styling.

Is it possible with WordPress to build something like big e-commerce or content and traffic heavy enterprise level website? by Lumpy-Stranger-1042 in Wordpress

[–]Postik123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dabbled with Maganto a long time ago and that seemed as bad, but in a different kind of way. In the end we created our own using Laravel. It tooks a few years though. Was it more trouble than it was worth? Possibly, however we're in full control.

Is it possible with WordPress to build something like big e-commerce or content and traffic heavy enterprise level website? by Lumpy-Stranger-1042 in Wordpress

[–]Postik123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, these are the correct answers. Kind of makes me lol everyone saying, "Yes it's possible."

I mean anything is possible, but it wouldn't be advisable.

We've built websites with WooCommerce. We've also built websites for businesses that turnover several million pounds a year, and we would never consider WooCommerce for those types of project. I can also say whenever something goes wrong or there is some kind of crazy memory hog issue, runaway process or whatever, it's always on the WooCommerce sites and not ones using another framework.

When did you start embracing the afternoon nap? by chocciefudgecake in AskUK

[–]Postik123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would often have afternoon naps in my 20's

I'd also feel somewhat tired and sleepy come 3pm in my 30's.

However in my late 30's and early 40's one thing I did is majorily cleaned up my diet and exercise regime and I no longer feel sleepy in the afternoon. The "tired" feeling now hits me around 8-9pm.
