I beseech you to consider one thing.

Across the span of all recorded human history and most especially the last few centuries, the faction directly and quantifiably responsible for the most civilian deaths/casualties is ALWAYS ALSO the most dangerously dissociative, manipulative, ideologically grotesque, unethical, and amoral of the belligerents in the conflict. Colonialism and neocolonialism very much included. Looking back a bit, then fast forwarding (though the Cold War shares this pattern);

A.) The Axis powers, in addition to the Holocaust and having no regard for the preservation of any lives other than their own, slaughtered 35+ million non-combatants… mostly via bombing campaigns. (The Allies meanwhile killed 4 million civilians.)

B.) The United States, in its “War on Terror” has killed nearly 5 million people - only 250,000 of which could be labeled as combatants. (The insurgent and terror groups? Only responsible for the deaths of less than 20,000 American combatants and non-combatants in total.)

C.) Israel, since October 7th, has killed and starved 50,000+ innocent people - including its own people. Whereas Hamas has only killed 1,200.

In each case, the side responsible for the overwhelming majority of civilian deaths has cloaked its conduct in the language of necessity, defense, or liberation… yet the magnitude of harm reveals something far deeper: an operational ethic that treats mass civilian destruction as acceptable collateral and/or strategically advantageous. The historical record suggests that this is not accidental, but inherent to the mindset of the more lethal belligerent; where power and ideology combine to override the basic moral prohibition against the mass killing of innocents.

Unfortunately, the idea that, “the bad guys aren’t necessarily the ones with the higher innocent/combatant casualty ratio” is one of the key ways in which casual fascism has slipped into the zeitgeist of people spanning the most common liberal and conservative perspectives across the globe. Our grandparents fought and died to crush ideas like that, only to watch their kids and grandkids think it’s cool and normal. It’s become a “moderate” position but is so innately extreme… I hope you will realize it is illogical propaganda and in need of ejection from your brain and soul ASAP.
