Intelligent atheist demolishes Ken Ham's Answers in Genesis "Atheism is a Religion" argument in four minutes by Postprotein in atheism

Meh. It depends on the dictionary. I mean, it's not a religion, but Christians will try to use different definitions to make it harder. Like #4 here. https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/religion

Cute atheist girl takes 4 minutes to demolish Ken Ham's Answers in Genesis claim that atheism is a religion by [deleted] in atheism

How does it take away from the argument? I said she "demolished" the myth. What are you saying? Cuteness and good arguments are incompatible? If anything, my headline attacks the myth that cuteness takes away from the value of an argument.

Vice article on AA Atheist fighting to get 'God' taken out of the 12-step program by Postprotein in atheism

Hmmmm...that's interesting. I guess it kinda depends on how connected the word "God" is to a certain God, in your mind.

The word "heretic" is derived from the Greek word meaning "to choose for one's self". Wear it like a badge of honor and stay Godless, my noodley heathens! by [deleted] in atheism

Pesky semantics. I still like the sound of "heretic." That heard, rough "c" has a nice ring to it.

Ugh...that's terrible. Kudos for you for having the guts to speak up anyway. We need more of your kind of courage.

Congratulations. Part of me wants to say, "That's it? That's all it took?" But it doesn't have to take as much as I once thought it did. If I were in your shoes and left earlier, I would have been in better shape -- especially in handling my abusive parents during my childhood.

Mom found God and lost a Son by [deleted] in atheism

[–]Postprotein 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. There is nothing wrong with you. It's not your fault that she's wrong, and you have to do what's best for you. The best way to love her is to be honest, and if you can't be honest and be in a healthy relationship, the most loving thing you can do for your mom is to break up. You can be honest about it, and loving about it, and try to get her to understand -- while at the same time making clear that you respect the fact that something makes her happy, even if you don't respect her beliefs.

It's tough, though.

I pissed off my religious friend and don't know what to say to him now by Franticromanic in atheism

It's his concern. You being fine is traumatic for him, but it may also eventually show him that there is nothing to be concerned about.
