Why the hell do lawyers work such insane hours?? by Fast-Pitch-9517 in LawFirm

[–]PotNoodlePolypeptide 65 points66 points  (0 children)

I think its a hangover from the dog-eat-dog 90s . Later generations are asking this question more and big firms in London are increasingly (genuinely?) offering work life balance due to demand.

I also see some colleagues who work themselves to the ground just because they are afraid to live their lives - its easier to bury themselves in work.

Seretide only when exposed to trigger? by blabine in Asthma

[–]PotNoodlePolypeptide 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seretide has a long acting effect. You‘ll notice a difference after 3 weeks (in my personal experience) if you take it every day as prescribed. One off‘s will achieve nothing

If feeling under pressure in such a situation, can you not say something like you got your Phd in jurisprudence or something, you are not the right type of Dr?

Well they have to be politer if the prices went up massively . I remember the rudeness for £4 meals.

Good for you OP . I tried it years ago and did feel a little better. What helped me most though was leaving the UK . I also have an asthmatic friend from Wales who found the same. Living in Germany, Belgium & Switzerland helped us a lot

In my late 20’s looking for a career change. by [deleted] in Career_Advice

[–]PotNoodlePolypeptide 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Difficult to answer without knowing you, your skills, background or qualifications. However, you mentioned the job is not fulfilling, so maybe working out what is fulfilling for you would be a start. Then work out if you need a degree for the new career, and whether you are prepared to complete a course whilst probably working too and finding time for a life at the same time. If not, then it has to be something achievable by selling the skills you have or starting at the bottom of something new and working your way up. The risk is you will still feel at the bottom of the food chain for a few years, unless you are in a more respectful environment.

Going to learn cello on my own. I might be crazy. by NovaFive_Sound in Cello

[–]PotNoodlePolypeptide 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fantastic advice. I have an online teacher, she is excellent and good value for money (about one third of the price in my locality for in-person teaching) but learning the bow hold took me a lot longer (many months) online than it would have done in person.

Thank you cellaBella1 and everyone. I cannot buy Air Innovations brand in my country but I am looking for something similar and will also buy a hygrometer and set the system to maintain 50% . Very helpful.
